Undergraduate Lab Coordinator

Primary Function:
This is a 9-month position (August 16-May 15)
The Department of Biological Sciences operates several teaching laboratories linked to introductory courses. The individual to be hired for this position must have broad training in the biological sciences, organizational and supervisory skills, and demonstrated familiarity with research, the scientific method, laboratory exercise design, safety and equipment.


Duties and Responsibilities:
Coordinate and train Teaching Assistants;
Assist with the scheduling and enrollment of labs;
Monitor, maintain and update inventories of lab teaching materials;
Provide written materials for the laboratories and ongoing assessment of individual laboratory exercises.
To procure materials, organize, coordinate and train personnel in biological sciences teaching laboratories, particularly for introductory courses.


Minimum Required Qualifications:
1. A. Bachelors degree in a scientific discipline closely related to the position
AND
two (2) years (24 months) of work experience in a laboratory or similar setting closely related to the position
B. any combination of education and/or work experience totaling five (5) years (60 months)

2. One (1) year (12 months) of supervisory and/or administrative experience.

NOTE: A Masters Degree in an area consistent with the duties of the position may be substituted for one (1) year (12 months) of work experience.


Education and Experience Preferred:
1. Masters degree in a scientific discipline closely related to the position.
2. Two (2) years of experience instructing and coordinating teaching assistants.
3. Ability to effectively organize and design laboratory exercises.


Working Hours: 8:00 - 4:30
