Position Description:
POSITION SUMMARY

This faculty position is a full-time, 100% FTE (11 Months, August - June) Tenure Track position as Mental Health & Wellness Coordinator/Counselor in the Division of Counseling located at San Jose City College.

Assignment may include day and evening responsibilities. Some workdays may be assigned outside the eleven-month academic calendar.
This position is represented by the San Jose/Evergreen Federation of Teachers, AFT 6157.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Advertising for, interviewing, and hiring new mental health interns, trainees, and/or associates each year.

2. Provide supervision, didactic, and/or training to mental health counseling interns, trainees, and/or associates.

3. Assist and lead efforts to establish agreements and memorandums of understandings with universities for mental health interns, trainees, and/or associates site placement.

4. Plan, implement, and deliver mental health services and mental health treatment to students in support of wellness, academic success, and retention including, but not limited to, mental health
counseling, outreach, and prevention activities and events.

5. Assess, evaluate, and counsel students (individually and in groups) in a variety of mental health related concerns, including mental health and substance abuse issues.

6. Provide drop in crisis counseling to students in distress, and conduct crisis interventions and assessments as necessary in collaboration with colleagues or in the absence of assigned colleagues.

7. Provide ongoing therapeutic support to students on a short-term basis.

8. Assist in the evaluation and response to student support referrals that come through the assigned software and update records on the assigned software as needed.

9. Develop and maintain confidential patient records in accordance with applicable standards of practice and federal, state, and local laws and regulations.

10. Provide professional development, training, and outreach to students and colleagues on topics related to mental health including, but not limited to, depression, anxiety, coping skills, and students in distress.

11. Provide consultation to students and colleagues regarding concerns, mental health issues, and best practices for supporting students with psychological issues.

12. Participate in the College's Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT) or comparable entity to provide risk and psychological assessments, assist with coordinating and leading the team, and attend meetings and trainings.

13. Participate and attend appropriate committees, advisory boards, task forces, and work groups that have direct impact on student mental health.

14. Participate and attend relevant activities, events, and meetings on campus and in the community; represent the college at local, regional, and national activities, events, and meetings related to mental health.

15. Knowledge and experience providing counseling with underrepresented, multicultural community college students.

16. Knowledge of applicable laws, standards and ethics of professional conduct related to independent practice of psychology, counseling, and related topics in mental health.

17. Teach courses in assigned discipline by communicating subject matter clearly and effectively.

18. Adapt methodologies for students with special needs and different learning styles.

19. Demonstrate commitment to professional development, including but not limited to activities such as: participation in professional conferences, workshops, seminars, membership in professional organizations, research projects, publishing academic work, participation in statewide committees or organizations, etc.

20. Demonstrate sensitivity in working with students and staff of diverse racial, ethnic, academic and socio economic backgrounds, sexual orientation, and disabilities by showing respect for differences and the dignity of others.

21. Participate in faculty responsibilities such as: course and curriculum development and review, student learning outcomes and assessment, program review, committees, research and special projects as needed in the discipline/department or district.

22. Attend and participate in department, division and college meetings and keep posted office hours.

23. Meet record keeping obligations on time, e.g. grades, census, reports, rosters, textbook orders, and requisitions.

24. Maintain and provide current course syllabi as required by California Education Code and Board policy.

25. Foster a professional work and learning environment.

26. Perform other duties as required by the Collective Bargaining Agreement.



Required Qualifications:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

1. Masters in Counseling, Rehabilitation Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology, Guidance Counseling, Educational Counseling, Social Work, Career Development, Marriage and Family Therapy or Marriage, Family and Child Counseling

(NOTE: A bachelors degree in one of the listed degrees and a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) is an alternative qualification for this discipline).

2. Possession of a valid California Psychology, Marriage and Family Therapy, Social Work, or Clinical Counselor License

    Salary Range:
    $98,200 to $134,801 Entry Level Annual Salary (11 Month, Academic Salary Schedule 2023-2024); Maximum Salary Potential $174,901. Note: Actual Salary placement is based on candidate's verified education and experience.
