WHAT OUR TEAM DOES WITHIN THE ACADEMY

The Academy's Learning Experience Design (LXD) Team designs and develops eLearning courses, and provides learning experiences and graphic design support to all Academy programs. This includes marketing and communication materials, custom animations and videos, and innovative digital products that inspire others and create emotional experiences. While the Academy is a project of SDSU's School of Social Work, this position is with SDSU Research Foundation, an auxiliary agent of SDSU. The learning experiences being developed by the LXD team are eLearning courses designed for staff working for county health and human service agencies. They are typically 60-90 minute asynchronous eLearnings or shorter micro-learnings, designed to enhance practice for those working in the health and human services field.


Responsibilities
YOUR ROLE IN REVOLUTIONIZING THE WAY PEOPLE WORK

Under the general direction of the Executive Director, the Learning Experience Design (LXD) Manager is responsible for the management of the Learning Experience Design (LXD) Team, including program planning, organization, implementation, and personnel. The position is responsible for providing overall project management, quality assurance oversight, and learning experience design strategy for Academy eLearning courses. This position manages project and LXD Team schedules and work assignments for eLearning production and graphic design projects across Academy programs. The LXD Manager tracks online learning trends, including immersive technologies, ethical and responsible use of gAI, innovative instructional design, and distance learning best practices. They will attend and facilitate stakeholder meetings related to online learning and partner with Academy Program leads to ensure contract deliverables for eLearning courses and graphic design products are highly engaging and are interactive and visually appealing. The LXD Manager will communicate the Academy brand to our stakeholders and learners. This position oversees a team of seven staff members, including two direct reports, and is a member of the Academys Shared Leadership Team (SLT).

THE WORK YOU WILL DO
You will be responsible for:
  • Providing overall project management, oversight, and quality assurance for Academy eLearning production and graphic design projects for all Academy programs.
  • Utilizing innovative instructional design technologies
  • Managing the LXD Team and contract designers in the design and development of:
    • Accessible/SCORM compliant products and services, including: eLearning courses, microlearnings, webinars, and marketing/communication products
    • Engaging and interactive content, assessments, and practice activities
  • Partnering with Academy program directors/managers and curriculum developers on an ongoing basis to establish and monitor production plans for all LXD deliverables.
  • Developing scopes of services for eLearning contracts and contractors and monitor contract deliverables and timelines.
  • Developing storyboards, writing, and producing narration and programming eLearning modules.
  • Evaluating and adapting behaviorally specific learning objectives for eLearning modules.
  • Collaborating with subject matter experts and curriculum developers to design skill/knowledge-based exercises and case scenarios which encourage effective transfer of learning.
  • Collaborating with User Experience (UX) designers to conceptualize, test and upload eLearning courses to Academy learning management system (LMS).
  • Communicating regularly with internal and external project stakeholders on project management timelines, status, and reviews.
  • Developing, supervising, and conducting performance evaluations for the LX Design Supervisor and UX Design Supervisor positions.
  • Attending Academy program operational meetings and relevant committee meetings.
  • Maintaining and enhancing organizational culture by working collectively as organizational people leaders and healthy culture ambassadors.


HOW WE ACCOMPLISH OUR WORK

This is a 40-hour-a-week, full-time position, working M-F from 8:00 to 4:30 p.m., and is based on contract funding subject to annual renewal. The position is subject to rare overnight travel and work shifts outside of normal business hours, including weekends and evenings. This position is based in California with the flexibility to be fully remote working primarily from a home office in California, fully office-based, or a hybrid of the two. Occasional travel is required to attend or facilitate in-person meetings or training.

Note: some duties may include working with and/or exposure to sensitive/traumatic topics or material dealing with child abuse, elder abuse, and/or issues and scenarios related to mental health, substance use, or racism.

As a project of San Diego State University Research Foundation, the Academy is grant-funded and serves as an auxiliary to the University. We are based near, but not on campus, and do not have direct responsibilities for working with or teaching college students.



Qualifications
THE SKILLS NEEDED

  • Ability to lead a variety of complex learning experience design projects.

Required Education & Experience
  • Equivalent to a bachelors degree in instructional design, education, or educational technology or related field. Additional experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-by-year basis.
  • Six (6) years of experience designing and developing interactive online educational courses.
  • Three (3) years of experience supervising or managing employees.


ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCE THAT WOULD BE NICE IF YOU HAVE

Preferred qualifications
  • Masters degree in instructional design, education, or educational technology.
  • 6+ years project management experience
  • Expert-level experience using industry-standard eLearning authoring software tools
  • Practice-level experience using learning management systems
  • Practice-level experience designing for accessibility using universal design principles, and 508/WCAG compliance.
