POSITION SUMMARY
The Learning Designer and Technology Consultant functions within the Office of Online and Blended Learning to partner with faculty and instructors in developing high quality and dynamic courses within the online and blended modalities, specializing in web accessibility and emerging technologies. This position promotes and supports the use of digital technology and provides services that facilitate the integration of technology into the teaching and learning activities across the curriculum. Those technologies include D2L, Zoom, Yuja, mobile technologies, virtual reality, 3D printing, and other closely related products and services.
The Learning Designer and Technology Consultant serves a critical campus role at CCA, ensuring online and hybrid course quality assurance and accessibility compliance. The position will focus on identifying, implementing, and conducting training on instructional technology and multimedia applications, including significant attention to complex web accessibility solutions. The Learning Designer and Technology Consultant uses a collaborative, equity-minded instructional approach rooted in best practices to design or support other Learning Designers in designing the Subject Matter Expert's (SME's) content and support the curriculum design process using Universal Design. To ensure student access, engagement, and success, courses will meet approved course quality standards and maintain web accessibility. Expertise, collaboration, organization, and effective communication skills are integral to provide comprehensive and high-quality instructional design. When available and aligned with the employee's credentials, this position is expected to teach at least one course per year and up to one course per semester to remain current in the principles of high-quality course design and delivery as well as with the integration of educational technology into curriculum.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

General:
  • Use CCA's quality assurance framework (e.g., Quality Matters) and Universal Design for best practices to guide Course Development process
  • Ensure WCAG 2.0 Level AA standards for web accessibility within course design and course review process
  • Effectively embed OERs and other instructional technology in consultation with the faculty or instructor
  • Provide comprehensive customer service support to faculty, instructors, and staff relating to various instructional technologies
  • Provide ongoing support to other instructional designers in the building/deployment of online courses
  • Develop and curate multimedia resources for use in online courses and the classroom
  • Assist with the integration of technology into curriculum and classroom instruction
  • Build collaborative partnerships with faculty, instructors, and staff across the college
  • Utilize expertise to develop and manage robust multi-modal training series to educate current and new faculty, instructors, and staff on higher level functions of D2L
  • Embed inclusive pedagogical practices that support closing the equity gap between students of color and white students
  • Partner with IT and Communications department as needed for tech support and marketing or communications
  • Partner with DOBL staff as needed for projects
Training:
  • Maintain and deliver quality assurance framework training to enhance knowledge, skills, and abilities of faculty, instructors, and staff.
  • Develop and implement training for faculty and instructors on the andragogy/pedagogy of online learning as well as the technical aspects of using the learning management system for online, remote, hybrid, hyflex and web-enhanced courses
  • Assess the delivery, outcomes, and feedback of all faculty/instructor training activities to report to the Dean; implement revisions and improvements annually based on these reports
  • Provide one-on-one technology and instructional support and training to faculty and instructors
  • Collaborate with others outside the DOBL to support excellent onboarding and orientation of new instructors and faculty members to D2L functions
Project Management/Specialized:
  • Research and evaluate course management solutions and other new and emerging instructional technologies, and participate in transitional efforts as needed
  • Identify emerging technologies to improve student learning
  • Review current processes and make recommendations for improvements
  • Develop and establish processes and guidelines as appropriate to increase efficiency and effectiveness Course Development and Review process
  • Oversee and implement system-level changes or decisions that relate to online and blended instruction




REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Educational Technology Proficiency
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution in instructional design, educational technology, or related field OR Bachelor's Degree in any discipline from an accredited institution plus 1-3 years of instructional design experience
  • Experience in and/or commitment to Web Accessibility, UDL, and equity, diversity, and inclusion
  • Experience with learning management systems (Blackboard, WebCT, Angel, D2L, eCollege, etc.)
  • Experience working with subject matter experts to develop online college courses or company trainings

Teaching and Training Experience
  • 1-3 years of professional experience with Course Development
  • Demonstrated experience training and/or mentoring faculty, instructors, or employees using instructional technology effectively
  • Experience with designing professional development workshops and resources

General Skills
  • Advanced knowledge of educational software, online conferencing software, Microsoft Office, Adobe Captivate, Articulate Storyline, Camtasia, or similar
  • Multimedia skills, including video editing, streaming audio and video, compression methods, file types, and formats
  • Ability to work independently, collaboratively, and flexibly as work and priorities shift
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, problem-solving, information-finding, and decision-making skills

PREFERED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's degree from an accredited institution in computer science, instructional design, educational technology, or related field
  • Familiarity with Open Educational Resources (OERs)
  • Experience with Quality Matters or similar online quality assurance framework
  • Experience teaching in higher education
  • Community College experience
  • Experience with data collection, analysis, and assessment
  • Basic coding experience such as HTML and CSS
  • Working knowledge of graphic design elements appropriate for online instruction
  • Experience teaching in higher education through multiple modalities (online, face-to-face, remote, etc.)
  • Project management experience





SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION

Salary Range: Anticipated starting salary range: $67,704.00. This salary is determined by the qualifications of the selected candidate balanced with departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information. CCA offers an excellent benefit plan, including generous leave, holiday, and education benefits. Full time employees immediately upon hire earn 15 hours a month annual leave and 10 hours a month sick leave.
