WHAT OUR TEAM DOES WITHIN THE ACADEMY

The Organization Development Team designs, implements, coordinates, and facilitates initiatives that advance the Academy's Strategic Plan with a focus on supporting staff and the Academy's growth. We bring the latest in organization and staff development to strategically support Academy programs, culture, systems, and staff. We form partnerships across the Academy to advance the health of the organization, recruit, develop, and retain staff, ensure equitable policies and procedures, and solicit funding to transform the way we and the people we serve work.


Responsibilities
RESPONSIBILITIES:

YOUR ROLE IN REVOLUTIONIZING THE WAY PEOPLE WORK

Under the general direction of the Org Development Manager, you will work as a member of the Org Development Team to support Academy culture and staff. The Leadership Development/Hiring Supervisor supervises the Executive Administrator and leads the hiring process, onboarding, and transitioning of Academy staff, maintains policies and procedures, and supports staff development and special projects. You will work to develop, improve, and reinforce strategies and structure at the Academy to align with shared values, organizational culture, and implementation of the Academys Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) System of Practice.
THE WORK YOU WILL DO
You will be responsible for:
  • Supporting people leaders through job conceptualization, recruitment, onboarding, and, on the other end of the staff life-cycle, exiting. This includes revising and supporting systems for recruitment, onboarding, transitioning, and exiting, and training people leaders on new systems and developing their skills as appropriate.
  • Serving as a liaison to the Human Resources Department of San Diego State University Research Foundation.
  • Identifying training needs to support equitable recruitment, hiring, and onboarding, as well as the development of Academy people leaders and working with members of the team to develop and deliver training.
  • Reviewing, revising, evaluating, and updating the Academy Policy & Procedures Manual and Supervisors Guide based on organizational needs and the Academys DEI System of Practice.
  • Participate and/or lead Academy Committees to support organizational health and growth.
  • Supporting the conceptualization and production of All-Staff events, training, and activities to foster connection, understanding, and collaboration across the Academys programs and divisions.


HOW WE ACCOMPLISH OUR WORK

This is a 40-hour-a-week, full-time position, working M-F from 8:00 to 4:30 p.m., and is based on contract funding subject to annual renewal. The position is subject to rare overnight travel and work shifts outside of normal business hours including weekends and evenings. This position is based in California with the flexibility to be fully remote working primarily from a home office in California, fully office-based, or a hybrid of the two. Occasional travel is required to attend or facilitate in-person meetings or training.

Note: some duties may include working with and/or exposure to sensitive/traumatic topics or material dealing with child abuse, elder abuse, and/or issues and scenarios related to mental health, substance use, or racism.

As a project of San Diego State University Research Foundation, the Academy is grant-funded and serves as an auxiliary to the University. We are based near, but not on campus, and do not have direct responsibilities for working with or teaching college students.

  • Are good at tracking projects, following up to ensure processes are implemented, and gathering and acting on feedback to improve processes.
  • Have excellent writing and editing skills.
  • Can perform basic mathematical calculations and utilize standard computer programs for word processing, spreadsheets, report preparation, and other work products as needed.


Qualifications
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION
  • Equivalent to a bachelor's degree and/or equivalent training and administrative work experience involving study, analysis, and/or evaluation leading to the development or improvement of administrative policies, procedures, practices, or programs.
  • 6 years of progressively responsible experience performing varied or specialized administrative and analytical duties and/or service as a program administrator.
  • (A master's degree may be substituted for years of experience, up to two years)


ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCE THAT WOULD BE NICE IF YOU HAVE

Preferred qualifications
  • Experience with supervisor and leadership development/training
  • Experience with staff recruitment and hiring processes
  • Tech savvy and comfortable learning new software tools
