Role and Responsibilities

Overall Responsibilities:
  • The Director of Shopper & Consumer Insights - CE serves as Samsung's expert in integration of consumer learning across the full Consumer Decision Journey. He/she ensures the voice of the Consumer in business decision making and acts as a strategic partner and consumer insight consultant in support of strategy, marketing plan and product innovation development.
  • This position focuses on Consumer Electronics, and provides relevant learning on Home Entertainment, Home Appliances, B2B Display and adjacent categories


Specific Responsibilities include:
  • Lead Consumer and Shopper Insights learning agenda and research for Consumer Electronics Category based on priorities set with Samsung's Marketing, Product, Sales and Retail teams (who are key stakeholders, others also have input).
  • Interface and support learning needs of Samsung CE Executives and their teams, as well as with Customers.
  • Empower decision making by delivering deep consumer understanding in simple, story like fashion, for Consumer Electronics categories, adjacent categories, brands and priority Retailers. Provide clear, actionable recommendations and consult to ensure activation of the learning.
  • Support cross functional & Global learning agenda through close collaboration with Insights colleagues to facilitate shared learning and cross-fertilization of ideas and knowledge.
  • Deliver research expertise, succinctly interpreting and synthesizing multi-source data to insights that lead to actionable strategies and plans for the brand. Innovate richer research capabilities
  • Primary: use deep knowledge of qualitative and quantitative research methodologies to understand and predict consumer behavior, purchase motivators and identify category, channel, product and marketing opportunities
  • Secondary: address business issues and provide macro learning and thought leadership
  • Lead Consumer Electronics Consumer Insights team in delivering full scope of Research Projects, including deeply understanding business issues, specific questions to address for different stakeholders/ users, determining best research methodology and vendor, negotiating best price, and delivering strong learning within needed timelines
  • Support, facilitate and empower teams through consultation, education and access to insights

  • Very strong Business Acumen to fully understand business issues to tackle and provide meaningful, impactful recommendations
  • Confidence and ability to engage and influence different levels and functional stakeholders


Research Capabilities
  • Very comprehensive, up to date research and analytical techniques and methodologies (notably Primary research). Syndicated research experience a plus
  • Deep understanding of Consumer and Shopper learning needs and approaches, including how to apply learning to successfully engage across the Consumer Experience Journey
  • Ability to lead teams in delivering full projects to achieve team goals and complete work assignments within established time frames


Vendor / Team Management
  • Evaluate via RFP best vendor for each project. Manage vendor to ensure clear goals, research capabilities and learning delivery within timeline and budget for high ROI.
  • Effectively manage direct reports and consultants


Communications & Collaboration
  • Very strong verbal and written communication skills to simply and succinctly convey learning and actions to take. Strong consultation skills to drive actions.
  • Ability to cultivate strong collaborative working relationships and contacts within work group, across other company functions and with external organizations
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, influencing and mentoring skills


Skills and Qualifications

Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, marketing, product management, sales, or related field.
  • 15+ years professional experience; 10 years' experience analyzing consumer data and providing insights that drive business, including research methods and statistics


Preferred Requirements
  • Master's degree in business administration or marketing/related field
  • 3 year experience analyzing national electronics retailers
  • Experience in consumer packaged goods (CPG) AND Consumer Electronics OR electronics industries
