About the Opportunity

JOB SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Assistant Vice President of Facilities Services and Operations, the Director of Athletic Facilities & Centralized Event Services provides professional direction and strategic leadership for Northeastern University's Massachusetts Athletic Facilities and Campus Events. Responsibilities include oversight of the housekeeping, maintenance, operation, planning and construction of physical assets, grounds, and the campus infrastructure associated with athletics; assists in the planning and management of the capital renewal and replacement budgets as they relate to the University's Massachusetts athletic facilities. Manage University Central Event Services responsible for requests, such as space needs, scheduling, staffing, equipment serving internal and external events. Liaise with internal and external stakeholders, coordinate event and maintenance requests, and work with other departments and contractors. Manage budgets and oversee staff in various situations and job-related function. Collaborates with all units within PREF, University constituents and external groups to deliver high quality, fully functional event services that are conducive to meeting the needs of students, faculty, staff, and the public for a dynamic institution.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree in a Leadership, Hospitality, Facilities Management, Business Operations, or Event Management field with commensurate experience. Exceptional work experience (including 5 or more years in a supervisory role) in the area of collegiate Athletic Facilities management may be substituted for the educational requirement. Athletic Facilities Expertise Knowledge, skill, and experience working within various types of athletic facilities including hockey rinks, boat houses, playing fields, air structures, and gymnasiums. Familiarity managing a NCAA sanctioned facility and directing related game day events and tournaments. Practical knowledge of ice plant operations, machinery, and routine maintenance. Ability to coordinate and supervise change over from ice rink to basketball court, commencement, concerts, or any other event.
  • Experience in developing event management contracts/licenses for: sound, lighting, entertainment, special permits, and insurance. Must have significant experience in event management. Comfort with purchasing practices, writing requisitions, and maintaining budgets. Leadership and Collaboration
  • Keen business savviness and stakeholder management skills to juggle against multiple, often competing priorities, to deliver maximum results. Honed critical thinking and problem-solving skills, well-organized, excellent writing, and communication skills. Ability to identify challenges and implement creative operational solutions. Responsibilities afford working a flexible schedule, including some evening and weekend events. Ability and commitment to work weekends in addition to regular hours a must.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES

    1) Manage University Central Event Services responsible for requests, such as space needs, scheduling, staffing, equipment serving internal and external events:
    • Develop continuous improvement strategies to expand Facilities Services offerings as they pertain to event management.
    • Develop and maintain working relationships with all units within PREF, University constituents and external groups to deliver high quality, fully functional event services that are conducive to meeting the needs of students, faculty, staff, and the public for a dynamic institution.
    • Effectively nourish and maintain the relationship with internal and external stakeholders to ensure University sponsored events comply with all applicable State and local codes and policies.
    • Additional responsibilities include facility coordination and facility management of all University events, including commencements, concerts, banquets, fund raisers, VIP management, and community events.


    2) Manage operations of the University's Massachusetts campuses Athletic Facilities to include Matthews Arena, Parson's Field, Cabot Athletic Facility, Barletta Natatorium, Henderson Boathouse, Dedham Track, Marino Center, Carter Playground and the Carter Air Structure to accomplish the goals and objectives set by the University:
    • Serve as primary liaison with internal and external constituents in organization and planning of major and minor projects; function as principal point of contact to ensure NU interests are met.
    • Establishment, communication, and implementation of procedures, best practices, operation, repair, and maintenance.
    • Discuss, plan, and delegate project assignments to staff.
    • Recommend solutions and resolve scheduling conflicts.
    • Ensure adherence to and support of campus ECOS safety programs.
    • Develop, justify, administer, and monitor annual budgets.


    3) Act as the primary stakeholder/client for all projects that impact Athletic Facilities and event spaces:
    • Collaborate with internal and external constituents on program assessments and strategic plan strategies for the development and renovation of Athletic Facilities.
    • Assist, review and make recommendations on project budgets and sourcing of specific equipment.
    • Support project and design teams with expertise and pertinent information on current facilities and industry trends for future growth and development.
    • Assist with permitting process with projects and event management by attending permitting meetings with local municipal boards such as zoning, conservation commission, DCR, ISD, BFD, Boston School Committee, and others.
