Job Description:
This position primarily supports the 100-level courses offered by the Computer Information Science department.

The successful candidate will have experience preparing and leading large-format introductory and 100-level courses in computing, including a range of topics from basic tool use (Word, Excel, Access, and other office suite applications) through introductory programming (in Python or other languages) and data structures and algorithms (in Java, C#, or other languages).

  • A typical faculty workload responsibility may include up to twenty four (24) credits of instruction per academic year.



  • The successful candidate may need to teach in other areas as assigned and qualified.

  • May be expected to develop and deliver face-to-face, hybrid, and on-line instruction at the Mankato campus, online, and/or at the university's additional locations, as assigned.

  • The successful candidate will collaborate with colleagues in curriculum design, instruction and evaluation, conduct research productively and mentor students in research, help create innovative strategies for student recruitment, retention, and completion, and develop external funding.

  • All faculty members are expected to engage in scholarly or creative activity or research, in continuing preparation and study, in contributing to student growth and development, and in providing service to the university and community (See Article 22 and Appendix G of the IFO Master Agreement).

  • This position will advise undergraduate majors.



Required Qualifications:
  • A minimum of eighteen credits of graduate study completed in computer science, information technology, management information systems, mathematics, or a closely related field, completed and documented on an official transcript by the date of appointment.



  • Demonstrated ability to design and deliver a variety of 100-level computing courses for both majors and non-majors.

  • Demonstrated ability to serve a diverse population and apply an equity lens to this position including social justice and/or anti-racism.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse working and learning environment.



  • Experience teaching and working with diverse student populations including first-generation students, second language learners, international students, and others who are under-represented in the STEM fields.

  • Demonstrated effective written, oral communication and/or presentation skills.

  • Masters degree in computer science, information technology, management information systems, mathematics, or a closely related field.

  • Experience preparing and leading courses in basic computing tool use (Word, Excel, Access, and other office suite applications).

  • Experience preparing and leading courses in computing through the first year of programming (CS0, CS1, CS2).

  • Demonstrated ability to hire, train, coordinate, and lead a team of instructors to deliver 100-level courses at large scale. These teams may include tenured and tenure-track faculty, adjuncts, graduate assistants, and undergraduate assistants.

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with faculty and staff in a collegial and cooperative manner.

  • Experience with departmental, university-level, and community service related to STEM education.

The Department of Computer Information Science is comprised of 15 full-time faculty members actively engaged in teaching, research, and service. The department offers undergraduate majors in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Computer Information Technology, and Health Informatics; masters degrees in Information Technology, Information Security & Risk Management, Health Informatics and Analytics, and Data Science; and minors and certificates for students with varying interests and backgrounds.Applications from qualified candidates who are currently in or have served in the past in industrial positions are welcomed.
