About the Opportunity:

Responsibilities:

The Assistant Director will assume primary responsibility for two key programs at the Asian American Center: American Heritage week (AAHW) and the Pan Asian American Council (PAAC). The Assistant Director will oversee the planning and implementation of these programs, including the development of specific goals and learning outcomes, development of meaningful programs, and the recruitment and training for AAHW Co-Chairs and PAAC Co-Chairs. In addition, the Assistant Director will provide programmatic and logistical support to other programs, such as Celebr(Asian), ranging from space reservations to program implementation to supporting student participants in these programs.

The Assistant Director will take primary ownership of marketing and social media efforts of the Asian American Center. This includes managing the Asian American Center website, weekly newsletter and overseeing the Asian American Center's presence on other social media platforms such as Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook. This individual will bring creative and innovative ideas to managing the AAC's online presence in ways that support and complement the programs and services offered by the Asian American Center.

The Assistant Director will oversee day-to-day operations at the Asian American Center. This includes the hiring and supervision of the Asian American Center's student work study staff and the overall management of the Asian American Center's public spaces and room reservations for these spaces. The Assistant Director will also be responsible for other duties as assigned. This position involves significant involvement in evening and weekend programs.

The Assistant Director will oversee NUAANCES: Asian American Community Engagement and Services and will build strong partnerships with local Asian American community-based organizations. The Assistant Director will work to increase participation in community service focusing on the local Asian American community. The Assistant Director will also build awareness of and participation in local programs and services that support the Asian American community.

The Assistant Director will provide support to Asian American student organizations at Northeastern. This includes student organizations represented in PAAC as well as other Asian American-focused student organizations. The Assistant Director will develop opportunities for these organizations to develop stronger connections to the Asian American Center through programs, advising and other forms of support.

Qualifications:

Master's Degree is required in Higher Education, Psychology, Counseling, Ethnic Studies, or related field.

At least 2-4 years' experience with program design, working closely with undergraduate students; experience in higher education desirable but not required; prior teaching experience is beneficial.

Deep awareness of issues and concerns relevant to the Asian American community and Asian American youth in particular, meaningful experience working with Asian American students, and developing educational programs for heterogeneous populations about Asian American issues. Working knowledge of Asian American Studies highly desirable. Must be student-centered and articulate in an understanding of social identity as it pertains to populations of Asian American college students.

Relevant skills include experience in office management, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and strong cross-cultural communication skills are required. Must be detail-oriented with excellent writing skills. Must be comfortable with making presentations and leading public forums. Relevant computer skills include a fluency with Microsoft Office and familiarity with Google Docs and Google Hangouts. Basic proficiency with Adobe Photoshop and InDesign is highly desirable. Experience with web design (specifically WordPress), electronic means of communication and social media platforms is highly desirable.

This individual must forward-thinking, creative and able to provide structure and strong leadership in the development of new programs.
