The University of Pennsylvania, School of Veterinary Medicine, Department of Clinical Sciences and Advanced Medicine (CSAM) invites qualified individuals to apply for a faculty position in the Primary Care (PC) Service. This faculty position will be in the University's Academic Clinician (AC) track at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor and will play a strategic role in growing PC within CSAM and the Ryan Veterinary Hospital (Ryan). The position will focus on clinical patient care and education of veterinary students in the area of surgical skills training.

This position dovetails with a renewed emphasis on PC education within CSAM and Ryan. The successful hire will help provide and organize surgical instruction including in spay, neuter, and minor procedures for meeting accreditation requirements and student educational needs. The successful hire will help build a vibrant, front-facing PC program for attracting strong veterinary students and will work with the Penn Vet Shelter Medicine Program, Soft Tissue Surgery Service, and Anesthesia Service, as well as with administration, to fulfill the School's commitment to the local community and pet population.

The successful candidate will have strong clinical and surgical skills in primary care medicine, surgery, and dentistry, as well as excellent communication and team-building skills, and will be expected to contribute to the visionary leadership in PC. Additionally, training and experience in high-quality, high-volume spay-neuter techniques and settings is necessary for the position. Experience in training settings and community-based veterinary programs in private or academic practices is desirable. Board certification by the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners is desirable and will be required before year six or the second reappointment. Salary will be commensurate with professional credentials and experience. Applications will be considered until an appropriate candidate is identified.

Qualifications:
DVM required and ABVP certification desired. ABVP board certification by year six or prior to the second reappointment required. Strong surgical skills in primary care medicine, surgery, and dentistry. Passion for teaching and the experience and ability to build and maintain a high-volume, high-quality, community-based veterinary program.
