In compliance with SB 1162, Western University of Health Sciences is providing a pay scale for this position. The pay scale reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for this position. Within this range, the individual pay is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to job-related skills, experience, relevant education or training, and work location. Please note that the compensation details listed reflects the base salary only.

Job Summary
The Animal Care Assistant supports the veterinarians and veterinary technicians in ensuring quality veterinary care for all pets, advocates for pets, educates clients on all aspects of pet health, and ensures a safe and effective hospital environment. This position is located in Van Nuys, CA.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Individuals must possess the knowledge, as well as the following skills and abilities or be able to perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.

- Must have the ability to multi-task, have good communication skills, organization skills, and problem solving skills.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Some computer skills and mathematical ability required.
- Experience working in a fast paced clinical setting preferred.
- Bilingual preferred.

Required Qualifications
Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.

Must be at least 18 years old to perform duties involving radiography (x-ray) and exposure to radioactive substances.

Act as the extra eyes, ears, and hands for the veterinarian and veterinary technician to ensure the best quality pet care and to maximize the veterinarians and veterinary technicians productivity. Communicate with veterinarian, veterinary technicians, and all other associates to maintain the flow of patients.

Provide professional, efficient, and exceptional service at all times. This includes performing or preparing procedures that do not require veterinarian or veterinary technician assistance, completing preparatory work for other procedures, ensuring that clients and pets are comfortable in the hospital, and monitoring hospitalized or surgical pets as allowed in the state practice act.
