Job Description:

Madison College's School of Technologies and Trades is hiring a Part-Time Laboratory Coordinator - Cabinetmaking & Millwork to help support hands-on training in woodworking, cabinetry, and millwork. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working in a shop environment and contributing to student learning by ensuring labs are well-prepared, safe, and fully equipped for daily instruction.

Working closely with faculty, the Lab Coordinator supports course delivery by overseeing inventory and procurement of supplies, maintaining tools and equipment, and helping uphold safety standards across the lab. This position is an important part of the student experience, helping create a structured and well-run environment where students can focus on developing real-world technical skills.

Position Details:

Expected Progression: This position includes an expected progression plan. Upon meeting departmental criteria, you will be eligible to receive a $1.00 per hour increase.

Schedule: This is a 25-hour-per-week, 52 weeks per year position. Work hours typically occur between 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. The coordinator will work with their supervisor and faculty to establish a consistent semester schedule, which may vary in how hours are distributed across the week.

Deadline: This position will be opened until filled, with a first review date of April 19, 2026, at 11:59pm. After this date, the recruitment may close without further notice.

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Prepares and maintains lab spaces by setting up and taking down equipment, models and materials to support instructional needs and ensure readiness for student and faculty use.
  • Manages lab operations to ensure effective communication among all users to optimize lab functionality.
  • Maintains lab equipment and facilities by performing routine maintenance, troubleshooting issues, coordinating repairs and ensuring compliance with safety and operational standards.
  • Oversees procurement and inventory management by purchasing supplies, tracking usage, maintaining budgets and collaborating with vendors to ensure labs are adequately stocked.
  • Ensures compliance with institutional policies and safety regulations by maintaining accurate records, implementing best practices and enforcing safety guidelines for lab environments.
  • Enhances instructional support by developing and revising lab procedures, coordinating lab manuals and integrating new technologies or methodologies to improve lab-based learning.
  • Contributes to an inclusive, equitable and supportive environment where everyone at the institution feels valued, respected and empowered to reach their full potential.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Knowledge of, or ability to quickly learn, laboratory operations, equipment maintenance and safety procedures.
  • Knowledge of inventory management, procurement processes and budget oversight.
  • Skill in troubleshooting, maintaining and coordinating repairs for lab equipment.
  • Ability to develop and implement lab procedures, safety protocols and operational guidelines.
  • Ability to apply subject matter knowledge relevant to the laboratory setting appropriately.
  • Skill in engaging positively with all populations and communities, contributing to a safe and inclusive learning and work environment.
  • Skill in effectively and respectfully communicating with others.
  • Ability to lift materials up to 50 lbs.


Minimum Requirements:
  • Technical Diploma (or higher) in a related field.
  • 1-3 years of relevant work experience.
