Job Description:

Dining Services at Madison College is seeking a Food Service Assistant to join the team at Goodman South Branch. This position provides day-to-day leadership in food service operations by supporting staff, monitoring workflow, and helping ensure smooth kitchen and front-of-house operations.

The role includes training team members on equipment and safety procedures, assisting with food preparation and customer service, and helping maintain food safety and quality standards. The Food Service Assistant will be responsible for managing inventory and ordering supplies, monitoring costs, minimizing waste, and assisting with menu costing and product selection. By supporting efficient operations and clear communication between staff and supervisors, this position helps create a positive and well-organized dining experience.

This is a full-time position scheduled for 40 hours per week, year-round (52 weeks). The regular work schedule is Monday through Friday between 8:00am - 4:00pm, hours may slightly fluctuate, however, no evening or weekend hours required.

Accountabilities:
  • Trains staff on equipment use and safety procedures to ensure compliance with food service standards and maintain a safe work environment.
  • Monitors staffing needs and workflow by ensuring appropriate coverage and supporting staff in both front-of-house and kitchen operations.
  • Supports food service operations by assisting in food preparation, customer service and maintaining efficiency in both kitchen and dining areas.
  • Manages ordering and inventory by tracking supply levels, placing food and supply orders and ensuring product availability.
  • Maintains cost control by monitoring inventory usage, minimizing waste and ensuring accurate food and supply expenses.
  • Contributes to menu development by assisting with menu costing, portioning and product selection to align with budgetary and quality standards.
  • Facilitates communication by serving as a liaison between staff and supervisors to ensure smooth operations and address concerns.
  • Contributes to an inclusive, equitable and supportive environment where everyone at the institution feels valued, respected and empowered to reach their full potential.
  • Performs other related duties within the scope of the position as required for the efficient operation of the division and to support institutional objectives.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Knowledge of food service operations, including kitchen workflows, front-of-house procedures and customer service standards.
  • Knowledge of food safety, sanitation and equipment use.
  • Skill in tracking inventory, managing supply orders and maintaining cost control.
  • Skill in training staff on equipment use, safety procedures and operational tasks.
  • Ability to provide effective customer service and resolve concerns.
  • Ability to follow standardized procedures and maintain consistency.
  • Skill in engaging positively with all populations and communities, contributing to a safe and inclusive learning and work environment.
  • Skill in effectively and respectfully communicating with others.


Minimum Requirements:
  • High School or equivalent additional work experience
  • 0-2 years of relevant working experience
  • Ability to obtain a ServSafe Certification during the onboarding process
