UNIVERSITY POLICE OFFICER 2 (LATERAL / OUT-OF-STATE / MILITARY / RETIRED OFFICERS ENCOURAGED TO APPLY)

The University Police Department is actively recruiting experienced, lateral, out-of-state, military and recently retired law enforcement officers for multiple University Police Officer 2 positions serving UNLV and the Nevada System of Higher Education. LATERAL / OUT-OF-STATE TRANSITION

ROLE of the POSITION

As a University Police Officer 2, you will perform full-service law enforcement duties including:
  • Patrol and protection of university campuses and surrounding areas
  • Criminal and non-criminal investigations
  • Traffic enforcement and collision investigation
  • Event security and large-scale campus operations
  • Community engagement with students, faculty, and staff
  • Court appearances and report preparation


This role offers the opportunity to work in a proactive, service-oriented policing model with a strong emphasis on visibility, prevention, and relationship-building.

DEPARTMENT INFORMATION

University Police Department, Southern Command, is a fully accredited, full-service law enforcement agency serving:
  • University of Nevada, Las Vegas
  • College of Southern Nevada
  • Desert Research Institute
  • Nevada State College


The department includes:
  • Patrol operations
  • Detectives division
  • Full-service 9-1-1 Communications Center
  • K-9 unit
  • Motors unit
  • COPS unit
  • Emergency management & large-scale event coordination

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

Salary range: $81,578.16 (Grade 40, Step 1) - $122,419.44 (Grade 40, Step 10)

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Graduation from high school or equivalent education and one year of law enforcement experience; OR Associate of Arts degree or equivalent coursework in criminal justice, police science, psychology, or closely related field and six months of law enforcement experience; OR one year of experience as a University Police Officer I in Nevada State service. (See Special Requirements and Informational Note)

* Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, positions in this series have been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in these positions must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.

* A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.

* Applicants must meet minimum standards for appointment as a peace officer as established in the Nevada Revised Statutes and Nevada Administrative Code.
