Job Summary
The College of Architecture + Planning (CAP) at the University of Utah is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Financial Analyst II to provide critical financial and analytical support for the Dean's Office.
This position will play a key role in managing budgets, analyzing financial data, and supporting strategic decision-making for the college. The successful candidate will primarily work with the Dean's Office while collaborating with faculty and staff across the college and campus to ensure accurate reporting and effective resource allocation.
The Financial Analyst II will perform financial analysis of cash flow, operating results, and business plans to determine rates of return, capital/cash flow requirements, and related metrics. Prepare forecasts and analyses on industry and general economic trends. Provide accurate, timely performance monitoring reports. May be responsible for budget or cost analysis.. Moderate skill set and proficiency in the discipline required. Conduct work assignments of increasing complexity, under moderate supervision with some latitude for independent judgment.

Responsibilities
- Develop, monitor, and reconcile departmental budgets to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Conduct monthly and annual budget-to-expense reviews, variance analyses, and year-end reconciliations.
- Process accounting and HR-related transactions, including invoice payments, P-Card management and reconciliation, travel requests, and expense reporting.
- Prepare, analyze, and interpret financial reports; utilize BI tools (Power BI preferred) for data visualization and insights.
- Meet with stakeholders to review financial information and promote financial literacy.
- Collaborate with peers to make financial adjustments and ensure transaction accuracy.
- Maintain and audit internal accounting systems; ensure proper use of university systems and software.
- Acquire and interpret data from dashboards and other reporting tools; resolve technical issues or recommend solutions.
- Recommend and implement improvements to departmental processes, accounting systems, and operations.
- Provide guidance or training to faculty and staff on financial procedures as needed.
- Support departmental transactions and related issues; adapt to evolving departmental needs and contribute to future budget and expense model development.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
EQUIVALENCY STATEMENT: 1 year of higher education can be substituted for 1 year of directly related work experience (Example: bachelor's degree = 4 years of directly related work experience).
Financial Analyst, II: Requires a bachelor's (or equivalency) + 4 years or a master's (or equivalency) + 2 years of directly related work experience.
Preferences
Current knowledge of University Finance systems is preferred but not required.
