Research and Innovation Office (RIO) at CU Boulder invites applications for The Director of The Colorado Quantum Incubator (COQI)! This role will be responsible for developing, leading, promoting, and attracting external support for programs and activities to launch companies, technologies, and products to grow the greater Colorado quantum ecosystem. The Director will lead all aspects of these efforts in a manner that increases external support for the Incubator, generates revenue to establish and ensure COQI sustainability, and enhances its reputation and visibility regionally, nationally, and internationally. To accomplish this, the Director will serve as a bridge between Colorado's university entrepreneurship and innovation (E&I) enterprises and the broader regional and national quantum ecosystems. Who We Are
The Colorado Quantum Incubator (a 501(c)(3) nonprofit entity) is a strategic initiative designed to establish Colorado as a leader in the global quantum economy by transforming quantum research into commercial technologies. By offering shared resources and facilities, COQI supports early-stage translational research, enabling quantum researchers to move their innovations to higher technology readiness levels (TRL) alongside start-ups and established companies.
This position reports through CU Boulder's Research and Innovation Office (RIO), which is the central point for support and advocacy for the university's world-class scholarship, creative work, and growing research enterprise. What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
Develop Support for COQI Programs and Activities
- Collaborate with members of the regional quantum ecosystem to ensure alignment of initiatives, resources and workforce development strategies that support the development of partner client entrepreneurs, innovators and companies.
- Grow the number of partner client ventures and develop programs for sustaining growth with measurable outcomes.
- Work with internal and external partners to ensure the COQI reaches sustainable operational status.
- Create a compelling shared vision and corresponding narrative on how the regional quantum community benefits from a strong ecosystem of collaboration, entrepreneurship, innovation and design.
- Consistently communicate and update that vision internally to the campus community and externally to relevant local, regional, national, and international audiences.
- Develop and implement a structured process for selecting entrepreneurs to join the incubator, ensuring alignment with COQI's strategic goals and funding objectives.
- Oversee daily incubator operations, including progress tracking, achievement setting, and strategic engagement planning for incubator members.
- Establish systems to monitor entrepreneur advancement.
- Deploy curated support services.
- Administer incubator space and equipment usage, including developing processes for space allocation and billing, monitoring occupancy and usage and purchasing and maintaining equipment to meet the evolving needs of member businesses.
- Track and maintain inventory of incubator shared lab equipment.
- Work to ensure responsible budgeting and use of funding sources.
- Liaise with CU Boulder Finance and Business Strategy, RIO and the state Office of Economic Development & International Trade for tax credit funding and compliance requirements.
- Lead efforts to identify, recruit, and select entrepreneurs for the incubator through outreach strategies, event participation, and direct engagement.
- Design and deliver resources to support startup growth, including learning programs and skill development services, networking and mentoring opportunities and access to service providers and talent pipelines.
- Foster a collaborative incubator environment that encourages peer mentorship and shared learning.
- Build and maintain relationships with core facilities and testbeds to ensure startups can access necessary services while following facility policies.
- Supervise incubator staff, providing leadership, guidance, and performance oversight.
- Plan and execute conferences and events, including developing and distributing marketing materials, coordinating logistics such as venue and catering and handling event staffing and support.
- Track and compile data related to space utilization, tenant satisfaction, and program performance for internal reporting and continuous improvement.
What We Can Offer
The starting salary range for this full-time position is $160,000 - $190,000. Relocation assistance is available within department guidelines.

What We Require
- Familiarity with quantum science and the broader quantum ecosystem.
- Bachelor's degree plus progressively responsible work experience.
- 4+ years of experience in business development, startup support, or program management.
- Strong understanding of startup ecosystems and innovation processes.
- Demonstrated experience organizing and prioritizing multiple workflows, meeting deadlines and exercising adaptability with a high degree of accuracy and close attention to detail, while maintaining a positive, effective and professional attitude.

- Exceptional relationship building abilities, including the ability to create and handle effective intra- and inter-institutional coalitions that produce meaningful outcomes.
