Boston University seeks a highly skilled and collaborative Senior Financial Analyst to support the Universitys central Office of Budget & Planning. Reporting directly to the Director, Budget and Academic Planning, this position is responsible for compiling university financial data relating to overall projections of enrollments, tuition, fees, & student financial assistance and all funds operating revenue and expenses. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience synthesizing complex data from a variety of sources across the University, providing actionable insights through clear, concise board-level presentations and reports. They will prepare, collect, and interpret financial data to develop financial analyses, projections, short and long-term financial plans, and other reports. This role requires excellent time management skills to thrive under tight deadlines and rapidly evolving priorities.
Major duties of this position include:
- Assist in the coordination of reporting and analysis regarding budget and actual data, which includes reconciling information between SAP FM, IP, and other university data systems.
- Develop and implement models to forecast financial performance. Assist with the operation of the University's annual development and quarterly confirmation process for operating budgets and the distribution of approved budgets. -Prepare various analysis detailing trends, discrepancies, or amendments that occurred to both the recurring, non-recurring budgets. Analyze operating performance and recommend new ways to find efficiencies, margin improvement, and/or savings. Including various analysis and projects that occur throughout the year -Collaborate with colleagues in Budget & Planning, Financial Affairs, and other key stakeholders across the university to conduct scenario and sensitivity planning in support of strategic decision-making under varying market and operational conditions. Pay Range: Salary Grade 50
- Minimum $80,200, Midpoint $120,300, Maximum $160,500 Note: Salary is based on related experience, expertise, available budget, and internal equity; new hires can expect an initial annual salary which is between the minimum and midpoint of the range above ($100,000 - $115,000).
- Boston University supports a flexible work environment for authorized staff members. This position is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement (i.e. remote work up to three (3) days per week), after completion of a successful observation period.
Required Skills
Required Skills:
- Bachelor's degree in finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field required.
- 5-8 years of work experience, preferably in a university environment
- Deep understanding of GAAP and other regulatory standards required for the higher education industry.
- Experience creating comprehensive board-level presentations and reporting packages (PowerPoint proficiency required).
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to run, interpret, and summarize complex data sets utilizing BI tools (Tableau, Power BI, Excel advanced skills) is required.
- Exceptional organizational and time management skills to manage competing priorities and tight deadlines.
- Ability to work collaboratively and influence across functions without direct authority.
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize routine tasks and ad-hoc requests
Preferred Skills:
- Advanced degree (MBA, CPA) preferred.
