Position Description
The part- time Print Studio Technician oversees the daily operations at Seattle University's Print Lab, ensuring a safe, organized, and supportive environment that aligns with curriculum needs and fosters student learning. This part-time role is responsible for maintaining the lab's specialized and antique equipment, managing inventory, and providing individual support and supervising safety protocols for students. Reporting directly to the Director of Creative Spaces, the part-time technician supports coursework, supervises scheduled lab hours, supervises student employees, and participates in professional development activities to enhance the lab's quality and effectiveness.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Lab Operations and Maintenance
- Manage the day-to-day operation of the Print Lab, keeping resources clean, organized, and in good working condition, including specialty and antique equipment (pre-1900s).
- Perform maintenance on tools and materials, if needed, ensuring equipment is safe and functional.
- Maintain up-to-date inventories of supplies and equipment.
- Monitor and enforce safety standards to maintain a healthy and secure lab environment.
- Recommend and implement improvements to lab safety, operations, and equipment upkeep.
Student Faculty and Support
- Conduct technical demonstrations of lab equipment and provide individual support and training for students.
- Assist students with material selection, equipment usage, and project development.
- Support class assignments conducted in the lab and facilitated a positive, inclusive learning environment.
Administrative Responsibilities
- Supervise and assign duties to student employees.
- Communicate facilities and operational needs to the Director of Creative Spaces.
Collaboration and Professional Development
- Work collaboratively with campus partners to maintain and enhance the lab's technical resources.
- Cultivate and maintain positive relationships with material suppliers.
- Participate in professional development activities, including workshops, seminars, and training events.
- Support exhibitions, events, and student-led projects associated with Art, Design, and Film programs.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in film, Photography, Media Arts, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Extensive experience with film, photography, and sound equipment, including setup and troubleshooting.
- Knowledge of analog and digital formats and workflows.
- Experience in providing technical instruction and support.
- Proficiency with record-keeping systems, Google Workspace, and Microsoft Office tools.
- Ability to prioritize, organize, and complete multiple tasks independently or as part of a team.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with a diverse campus community.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds and use ladders; must pass background check.
Preferred Qualifications
- Degree in Film or Photography-related field.
- Experience in academic, nonprofit, or media arts service environments.
- Familiarity with equipment inventory systems and student-centered learning models.
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to innovation and continuous learning.
- Work Environment and Physical Demands
This position requires frequent interaction with students, staff, and faculty in a fast-paced technology checkout environment. Tasks may involve standing for long periods, lifting up to 50 pounds, and using ladders. Some evening and weekend hours may be required.

Compensation at a Glance
Hourly Salary Range: $26.82 per hour per hour.
Seattle University has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting.
