Job Description:

Veteran Services at Madison College is seeking a Program Advisor to join the department. This position delivers comprehensive academic advising and case management services for an assigned program, supporting students through every stage of enrollment, progression, and achievement.

Success in this role requires providing personalized guidance, organizing student-centered programs, and collaborating with campus partners to remove barriers and foster academic success. The Program Advisor will promote equitable access, enhancing retention, and advancing student-focused initiatives, this position plays a key role in achieving institutional goals and strengthening the overall student experience.

Position Details:

Schedule: The regular work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm. This role has the option to perform work remotely two days a week, subject to change per Madison College policy.

Expected Progression: This position includes an expected progression plan. Upon meeting the outlined criteria, you will be eligible to receive a $1.00 per hour increase.

Accountabilities:
  • Provides individualized academic, career and transfer advising to support student goal setting, course selection and long-term educational planning.
  • Delivers case management and retention support through proactive monitoring, early intervention and referrals to internal and external resources to address barriers to student success.
  • Coordinates and implements student-facing events, workshops and orientations to promote program engagement and increase student preparedness.
  • Supports recruitment and enrollment efforts by delivering outreach presentations, participating in placement and onboarding processes and guiding students through institutional procedures.
  • Collaborates with internal departments and external partners to improve access, resolve student concerns and ensure alignment with institutional and partner requirements.
  • Leads or contributes to cross-functional projects and continuous improvement initiatives to strengthen student support practices and enhance advising effectiveness.
  • Maintains accurate documentation and reporting to support grant compliance, institutional accountability and informed decision-making.
  • Exercises independent judgment to resolve complex advising scenarios and uphold policies while adapting to diverse student needs and learning environments.
  • Contributes to an inclusive, equitable and supportive environment where everyone at the institution feels valued, respected and empowered to reach their full potential.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Knowledge of academic advising principles, including course planning, transfer pathways and student support strategies.
  • Knowledge of institutional policies, student services and external support systems that impact student enrollment, persistence and success.
  • Skill in applying case management strategies to support students navigating academic, personal or financial challenges.
  • Skill in facilitating student workshops, presentations and events.
  • Skill in documenting advising interactions and tracking student progress.
  • Ability to manage multiple processes, meet deadlines and maintain accuracy in a fast-paced environment.
  • Skill in engaging positively with all populations and communities, contributing to a safe and inclusive learning and work environment.
  • Skill in effectively and respectfully communicating with others.


Minimum Requirements:

Education:
  • Bachelor's degree or Associates degree and equivalent relevant work experience. *Experience used as an equivalent of an educational requirement is in addition to any experience required by the position.


Work Experience:
  • 0-2 years of relevant and professional work experience.
