THIS IS A GRANT-FUNDED POSITION
JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The Research Technician 3 assists with studies of mouse models of cancer for an NIH-funded project. This position assists the Principal Investigator (PI) and laboratory team in mouse colony management including genotyping and injecting mice with tumor cells, managing reagents, and conducting assays such as PCR, ELISAs, and Westerns at the bench. The ideal candidate contributes to projects as co-author on manuscripts and assists in generating data for grant applications.
Responsibilities
- Performs technical laboratory work including polymerase chain reaction, gel electrophoresis, and DNA/RNA isolations.
- Assist with the maintenance of mouse colony (husbandry), long term diet studies, and animal experimentation.
- Manages complex resources such as mouse breeding, genotyping, planning for experiments, diet studies.
- Maintains records, set priorities, and implements assignments in a timely manner.
- Identifies problems, troubleshoots, and analyzes issues independently; communicates problems to the PI and group.
- Collects and analyzes data for accuracy, validity and integrity.
- Coordinates with other lab members for safety training including BSL2, biohazard radiation, and IACUC, LACU, DEA compliance including inventory and monitoring radioactive use.
- Documents experimental protocols.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
EDUCATION: Bachelor's Degree in Immunology, Microbiology, Biology, or a related field of study. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)
EXPERIENCE: One (1) year of lab experience; OR a combination of college coursework and work experience to equal five (5) years.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of mouse models is necessary.
- Knowledge of specific techniques/equipment needed: rodent (mice) colony management.
- Ability to learn quickly, work independently, and ethically in all a team.
- Knowledge of research and regulatory standards.
WORK SCHEDULE: This position may occasionally be required to work weekends
