Wellness Coordinator - Center for Health Education and Wellness

Multiple Positions

The Center for Health Education and Wellness (CHEW) at the University of Tennessee - Knoxville (UTK) is hiring 2 Wellness Coordinators to cover two focus areas: Alcohol and Other Drugs Misuse Prevention (AOD), and Student General Health and Wellness (GHW).

The Alcohol and Other Drug Coordinator is responsible for developing, coordinating, delivering, and evaluating individual and population level comprehensive alcohol and other drug prevention strategies and services. They will collaborate with campus partners, community organizations, and government agencies, design educational materials, and deliver training sessions on substance abuse prevention.

The General Health and Wellness Coordinator will utilize data collected from campus-wide health assessments to develop and maintain population-level programing and resources to meet the students' health and wellness needs. Using evidence-informed strategies to systematically address a wide range of topics following the 8-dimensions of wellness model.


Responsibilities
  • Plan, implement, and evaluate theory-based and evidence-informed health promotion strategies, policies, programs, and services
  • Develop strategic plans, goals, and measurable objectives for health promotion programs and services
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders on and off campus to develop a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach to health promotion for students
  • Provide input on management of the overall CHEW budget
  • Hire, train, manage, supervise, and evaluate paid and/or volunteer student staff and/or interns
  • Develop and oversee the content of the website, social media, and print materials
  • Speak to student groups about the CHEW and other health-related departments upon request; Contribute to the promotion of the overall CHEW department
  • Develop, implement, and analyze periodic health surveys that 1) provide baseline and follow-up health data, 2) identify program needs and priorities, 3) evaluate the effectiveness of programs and services, and 4) track trends in student health status and behavior



Qualifications
Required Qualifications
  • Education: Master's Degree in Public Health, Social Work, or related field
  • Experience: One year of related health promotion work experience (2 yr graduate assistantship equals 1 yr experience).
  • Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Demonstrated knowledge to conceptualize health promotion in the context of higher education; Demonstrated knowledge of health promotion, behavior change, and population-based theories and models; Ability to critically review health-related professional literature relevant to students and assess its applicability and utility for effectiveness on a particular setting; Demonstrated knowledge of evidence-informed health promotion programs/initiatives; Written/oral/interpersonal communication skills.
  • Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without need now or in the future for sponsorship for employment visa status.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience: Experience doing health promotion and prevention work in a higher education setting.
  • Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Knowledge of national best practices of health promotion within higher education
