Job Description
Reporting to the Testing Coordinator, the Testing Specialist performs administrative and proctoring duties to assist in the daily operations of the Student Disability Services (SDS) Testing Center. The specialist manages the administration of exams, supervises and assigns tasks for testing proctors, and supports communications with faculty, students, and staff.
Responsibilities
Exam Administration:
- Administer and oversee exams according to prescribed standards and guidelines for both day and evening testing hours, including monitoring the conduct of examinees
- Manage testing appointments, schedules, and customer service inquiries by communicating and providing information and assistance to faculty, staff, and students regarding exams
- Organize, prepare, and verify the accuracy of test materials
- Convert exam materials into accessible formats for use with assistive technology software
- Prepare various assistive technologies for students and troubleshoots if necessary
- Communicate with faculty, staff, and students and serve as a resource to facilitate testing accommodations to students, as well as promote productive working relationships with faculty and staff
- Maintain all supplies necessary for the efficient operation of the testing center
Document Conversion
- Document Conversion: Assist in obtaining and/or converting appropriate instructional material in[to] accessible formats, ensuring timely delivery of requests
- Train and assist students with accessible text, software, and technology needs
- Perform quality control on completed materials
- Communicate and promote productive working relationships with students, faculty, and staff
Management/Training:
- Assist in recruiting, hiring, training, and supervising test center proctors and couriers
- Assist in facilitating ongoing training for SDS staff and testing center employees
- Assist in managing the weekly scheduling of proctors
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Education: This position requires a high school diploma or GED
- Experience: Two (2) years of work experience
- Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without need now or in the future for sponsorship for employment visa status.
- Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Proficient computer skills; Ability to manage people and priorities effectively and efficiently; Knowledge of document conversion software; Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with constituents; Ability to develop and present training materials about test proctoring and assistive technology; Ability to stay abreast of current and emerging trends and information in testing and document conversion; Ability to maintain and present accurate records, reports, and statistical data; Ability to research, propose, and implement new technologies and procedures; Ability to maintain confidentiality in compliance with FERPA; Basic understanding of civil rights laws such as the Americans with Disabilities Act, Sections 504 & 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, and other applicable laws.
Preferred Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's degree
- Experience: One (1) year experience in the testing industry, higher education, technology, or related field; Previous experience in a National College Testing Association (NCTA) certified testing center.
- Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Knowledge of ADA and provision of disability-related accommodations; Advanced computer software skills; Skilled communicator; Knowledge of prescribed standards and guidelines in test administration; Proven ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and thrive in high-pressure environments
Work Location
- Knoxville, TN; Onsite
Work Schedule
This position requires one or two evening shifts per week and occasional weekend work. Staff must be able to work extended hours during final exam periods and be available for potential overtime as needed.
