Job Description:
Operate and maintain safe clean interdisciplinary fabrication shops for the college of Visual and Performing Arts. The focus of this position would be supporting Ceramics and Sculpture areas, with additional help needed in Printmaking and Jewelry and Metalsmithing. Proficiency in kiln building and repair, clay working/mixing equipment, power tools, hand tools, and general machine maintenance required.
The ideal candidate would be comfortable utilizing wood, metal and plaster fabrication equipment. Any foundry and digital fabrication experience would be a plus. They would instruct and operate in spaces where students and faculty are engaged in advanced fabrication and materials research. They function to give students a intimidation free and safe learning environment, equipped with modern technologies in support of curriculum, with which they can research, explore, and create through various materials, processes and techniques. Candidates must be committed to DEI.

Qualifications:
  • College degree in related field (Art, Ceramics, Sculpture, Design, Industrial Design, Furniture Design, etc.) or relevant work experience. Preferably, teaching, or mentoring experience.


Job Specific Qualifications:
Extensive knowledge of:
  • Ceramics techniques and processes, kiln building/repair
  • Metal, plaster, and wood fabrication techniques.


Knowledge of:
  • Printmaking techniques and processes
  • Jewelry and Metalsmithing techniques and processes

Comfortable with:
  • Microsoft office suite
  • Adobe Creative Cloud

Additional Skills a Plus:
  • Foundry
  • Digital fabrication techniques and processes
  • 3D modeling software (Rhino, Blender, Solidworks, etc.)


Responsibilities:
  • Provide instruction, maintain, and repair Ceramics equipment as necessary, implement upgrades. Maintain inventory of materials, equipment, machine parts, consumables, and hand tools.
  • Maintain health and safety standards as dictated by University and government regulation.
  • Provide instruction, maintain, and repair wood/metal/plaster equipment as necessary, implement upgrades. Maintain inventory of materials, equipment, machine parts, consumables, and hand tools.
  • Provide support for additional academic areas such as Printmaking and JAM, maintain and repair equipment as necessary, implement upgrades.
  • Supervise student employees
