Description:
The Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga College of Engineering and Computer Science invites applications for the following two tenure-track positions in Computer Science beginning August 1, 2023.
- Assistant Professor - with emphasis in high performance computing (HPC) and scientific computing,
- Assistant Professor - All areas of Computer Science with emphasis in areas like artificial intelligence, computational biology, database systems, graphics, machine learning, natural language processing, robotics, systems and networking, and theory of computation.
The Department of Computer Science and Engineering offers degrees at the BS, MS, and PhD levels as follows:
- BS degree in Computer Science
- Concentrations: Software Systems, Data Science, STEM Education, Cyber Security
- BSCpE degree in Computer Engineering
- MS degree in Computer Science
- Concentrations: Computer Science, Data Science, Cyber Security
- MS degree in Data Analytics (a joint program with the Rollins College of Business)
- Tracks: Computer Science, Business
- PhD in Computational Science, Computer Science concentration
The successful candidate will be expected to teach and conduct research in their areas of specialization.
Qualifications:
A successful candidate will possess the following requirements:
- PhD degree in Computer Science or a closely related field. Individuals must have their degree awarded before employment starts.
- Proven teaching and research experience in Computer Science or a closely related field.
- Ability to teach introductory/advanced courses in Computer Science or a closely related field.
- A strong interest in working with graduate and undergraduate students.
- Ability and experience to actively seek external research funding and publish scholarly work in peer-reviewed journals and/or conferences appropriate to the field.
- Willingness to engage in assisting the UTC campus in its ability to reach additional goals as specified in UTC's Strategic Plan and the college and department's strategic plan, including a demonstrable commitment to diversity and inclusion.
- Excellent written and oral communications skills in English.

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga has exceptionally strong capabilities in High Performance Computing (HPC), including one of the 10 Tennessee Higher Education Commission (THEC) Centers of Excellence; the SimCenter (aka, Center of Excellence for Applied Computational Science and Engineering) provides a core HPC computing facility and opportunities for collaborations in this field as well as in its core disciplines involving modeling and simulation.
