Responsibilities
As an engineering laboratory technician, you will work with materials engineers to provide support with day-to-day activities; operate laboratory equipment, generate test data, analyze samples to specifications, and write laboratory reports to support metals, fluids, and environmental testing projects. As a team member you will be responsible for maintaining lab equipment, to support calibration and PM for equipment.
Note: The position will be moved to the Racine, WI location. Interim coverage will need to be provided to the Burr Ridge facility with paid travel until the move is complete. Candidates who live 50 plus miles from the Racine location would be eligible for relocation assistance.
Responsibilities:
- Operate and maintain all laboratory equipment related to materials engineering.
- Responsible for operating cutting saw to section parts into workable pieces for further evaluation.
- Responsible to prepare metallurgical samples, by sectioning, mounting and polishing for further detailed metallurgical evaluation.
- Will use microscope and related software to collect images, and use macro/micro hardness tester to support metallurgical analysis and check heat treated parts to drawing requirements.
- Responsible for weldment sectioning, evaluation and measurement to check conformance to weld assembly drawings.
- Responsible to follow Material Test Methods and SOPs to assist Engineer in sample preparation and data collection related to metals, fluids and environmental testing.
- Will use microhardness, macro hardness tester, microscope, stereoscope, non-destructive tester, and similar lab equipment to generate data for detailed material investigation.
- Responsible for environmental testing of plated/coated components and samples for supplier approval and on-going quality checks to support purchasing, supplier quality and engineering.
- Responsible for uninterrupted working of environmental test equipment, ensures tank levels for salt solution; measure and mix salt solution as needed for standard tests.
- Responsible for writing simple laboratory reports for routine lab testing based on provided report templates; with ability to understand company standards and drawing requirements.
- Responsible to keep the lab clean and organized and follow and chip in with lab safety procedures.
- Responsible to keep track of laboratory consumables and ordering as necessary.
- Responsible for routine maintenance and calibration of test equipment following ISO9001 procedures.
The annual salary for this role is $50,000 - $72,000 plus any applicable bonus. (Actual salaries will vary and will be based on various factors, such as skill, experience and qualification for the role).

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Associate degree in Engineering or related field.
- 3 or more years of experience in a lab or shop environment working with metal cutting saws, operating basic equipment and equipment maintenance.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Good computer skills. Knowledge about Microsoft office, including working with outlook and SharePoint.
- Good communication (oral and written) and collaboration skills.
- Able to perform under minimum guidance, hard-working, ability to learn internal standards and procedures and able to handle day-to-day job priority to drive efficiency.
