Job Description
The College of Fine Arts seeks a Director of University Ensembles. This position manages the activities, programs, and special events of the Boston University music ensembles serving predominantly non-music majors. In addition to responsibility for recruiting interested students into the ensembles, the Director of University Ensembles recommends for hire and works with faculty, graduate assistants, and student managers of the ensembles, including Athletic Bands, All-Campus Orchestra, Concert Band, Big Band, and Jazz Combos. This position supervises the Assistant Director of Athletic Bands as well as graduate student assistants and student ensemble managers. This position bears responsibility for managing the instrument inventory for the entire School of Music and all related ensembles, and develops and maintains content of website pages pertaining to University Ensembles. This position also manages key information and functions related to the promotion of major School of Music events. This role provides oversight of programming information for large-scale events. This requires the ability to look at the big picture goal of the event from a performer, patron, and University point of view while also being able to articulate and manage all of the incremental details required to produce the experience. These programming events include major public-facing School of Music concerts such as Symphony Hall, Carnegie Hall, and Tsai concerts.
Required Skills
Bachelor's degree and five to eight years experience required. Some evenings/weekend work required according to events/programming schedule.
