Job Profile Summary An Automation Engineer is a key element within the Rackspace support infrastructure and is expected to provide a high level of technical support to our customers. Owns complex automations that enable Rackspace to better serve our customers. Applies creative problem-solving techniques to identify the source of problems; while at the same time keeping the customer aware of every step along the way. An Automation Engineer is expected to use initiative and standard programming practices to ensure the stability and security of Rackspace's automated solutions

Key Responsibilities Proposes and implements system enhancements that will improve the capabilities, performance and reliability of the automations. Coordinates the order and execution of the development, upgrading, monitoring, testing and servicing the automations. Defines, designs and implements automated solutions. Builds and supports automations for deployment, diagnostics and remediations run on customer devices. This will include bulk and on demand solutions for end user use. Designs and develops automation scripts and programs in support of Rackspace and its customers. This position will help create a series of automated actions that will allow for faster deployments and service restoration for the customer. Develop against current versions of the platforms supported by Rackspace. Formulates new and alternate ideas, approaches, and designs to evolve own feature area or to solve problems encountered in own feature area. Focuses on a specific feature area or component. Influences functionalities that make broad contribution to our product and service offerings. Knowledge

Advanced knowledge of Network fundamentals, including diagnostics with OS system tools. Uses skills as a seasoned experienced professional with a full understanding of industry practices and company policies and procedures; resolves a wide range of issues in imaginative as well as practical ways. Advanced knowledge of server DNS, SMTP, and TCP/IP. Advanced knowledge of DNS, including diagnostics with system tools. Continually expands knowledge in the areas of new developments and trends; may make recommendations to management on desirable additions and developments. Must be detailed in documenting information and practice good follow through techniques. Excellent problem solving abilities, coupled with a desire to take on responsibility. Possesses excellent written and verbal communication skills; bi-lingual skills is a plus. Ability to communicate technical info and ideas so others will understand. Ability to make appropriate decisions considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions. Good ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize work in order to maintain required productivity levels. Due to the 24x7 operations of the business, must be able to work a flexible work schedule, may include nights, weekends, holidays, etc. Ability to successfully work and promote inclusiveness in small groups. SkillsDemonstrated ability to consistently provide FANATICAL support The role is customer facing, working closely with business and technical influencers, IT Pros, and Rackspace partners. The right candidate for the role will have multiple years of experience with Microsoft Azure. In this role you will be part of an agile engineering team responsible for designing, deploying, and managing the tools and processes used to enable our largest clients to deploy additional workloads into Azure and increase their consumption of the platform by providing deployment guidance, supporting development of the customers' cloud adoption model, and providing appropriate recommendations to overcome blockers If you are expert in these areas, you will find yourself applying your knowledge, validating your work in the fast-growing Azure cloud platform, and enjoying the great sense of accomplishment. As a part of the team, you will gain a solid understanding of what it takes to manage the Azure cloud and how to work with large scale services. Strong knowledge of Azure Active Directory (Domain Services, Federated Services, Connect), Azure Monitoring (Infrastructure Insights, Application Insights, Security Center), Azure Automation Services, Azure Recovery Services (Site Recovery/Backup). Understanding of Software Defined Networking concepts. Strong knowledge of common Security Practices. Outstanding problem-solving, troubleshooting skills. A passion for working with peers and customers to help resolve deep customer technical issues. Interfaces with customers' program personnel in addition to working with developers, DevOps engineers, and other tactical contacts. Must operate across organizational and computing "silos" to facilitate solutions. Resolves complex issues and contributes to complex technical design and build activities. Evaluates organizational processes and procedures and works with operational teams on improvements for efficiency and effectiveness. Operates under moderate supervision. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related technical field and experience in Cloud Engineering role. Experience of Engineering with Azure Resource Manager and Site Reliability Engineering. Certified CompTIA A+ (or industry equivalent), CompTIA Network+ or Cisco Networking (or industry equivalent), and Microsoft Exam 70-533 Implementing Microsoft Azure Infrastructure Solutions and Exam 70-535 Architecting Microsoft Azure Solutions. Experience in a System Administrator for SQL, Windows, and/or Linux. Proven track record troubleshooting cloud based workloads, seeing issues through to resolution, and ensuring follow through with exceptional verbal and written communication. Nice to haves: 2+ years of experience in "migrating" on premise workloads to the cloud. Experience on transformation projects and successful transitions to implementation and support teams. Experience with Hyper-V Configuration and Administration. Proven track record of building deep technical relationships with internal and external stakeholders at all levels of the organization, and growing cloud consumption share in large or highly strategic accounts.
