Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center is seeking a full-time Senior Network Systems Specialist. The Senior Network Systems Specialist oversees and administrator of the edge networking devices. This includes advanced knowledge of F5 load balancers, Palo Alto firewalls, Cisco ASA. Working knowledge of Force Point content filters and Data Lose Prevention appliance. An ability to be the primary engineer with specific edge networking technologies as well as being a back to the current engineer. Position requires strong knowledge in layer 3 network hardware and design and administration. This includes working knowledge of Cisco and Arista Routers. Role requires strong knowledge in the following areas BGP, EVPN, VXLAN , SSL IPSEC. Understanding of WAN architecture, MetroE, DWDM communications, MPLS, Point to Point IPSEC Tunnels. Must be comfortable in large enterprise environment. Provides support within multiple Data Center architecture and design. Follows and understanding industry standard ITIL principles regarding incident management and change administrations. Provide mentorship and education to Jr. members of the team when called upon. Comfortable in healthcare environment. Available off hours for incident management and network change implementation. Oversees and sometimes can be called upon to manage Telecom/Networking projects and activities as well as working with the vendors during deployments, implementations, and break/fix situations.

Details of this position also include:

  • Administrator of Cyber Security hardware; Palo Alto and Cisco Firewalls. This includes adds moves and changes of Firewall rules and policies.

  • Managing complex ACLs and policy-based routing tables.

  • Administrator and building of F5 VIPS within a large enterprise organization with an understanding of Wide IPs and GTMs.

  • Management of layer 3 networks and routing tables that resides in a large core environment.

  • Administration of organization's external DNS environment.

  • Management of Network connectivity; Adds/Moves and Changes within multiple redundant data centers.

  • Manages and optimizes high availability/scalability of our Networking and Security infrastructures.

  • Works closely with the other areas of the business and IT to understand current initiatives and ensure that technology strategies are positioned appropriately.

  • Provides vendor management for related technical services.

  • Designs and implements short and long-term strategic goals specific to Data Center and Edge security infrastructures.

  • Manages, directs, and utilizes knowledge on best practices in area related to infrastructure.

  • Ensures appropriate security levels on Network hardware and security appliances.

  • Evaluates hardware and system software requirements; determines if upgrades are required. to provide overall organizational productivity and cyber security.

  • Analyzes emerging Telecom technology for potential uses of the organization; recommends where and when the technology will become useful for implementation.

  • Provides technical architecture designs and documentation for Network and Security hardware and infrastructure.

  • Provides 24-hour on-call support on a rotating basis with other team members, as required.

  • Attends meetings as required, either in person or via virtual meeting platforms.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.


Starting salary for this position is $109,351 annually which includes a comprehensive benefits package.

Applicants must have aMaster's degree and the equivalent of six (6) years of full-time experience in computer system hardware, operating systems and software, enterprise networking or computer systems security as it relates to technology used at the organization; or a Bachelor's degree and the equivalent of eight (8) years of full-time experience in computer system hardware, operating systems and software, enterprise networking or computer systems security as it relates to technology used at the organization; or an Associates degree and the equivalent of ten (10) years of full-time experience in computer system hardware, operating systems and software, enterprise networking or computer systems security as it relates to technology used at the organization; or a High School diploma or High School equivalency and the equivalent of twelve (12) years of full-time experience in computer system hardware, operating systems and software, enterprise networking or computer systems security as it relates to technology used at the organization.

The preferred candidate will have extensive experience in Palo Alto Firewalls as well as F5 administration. Experience is WAN architecture and design. Strong Layer 3 competence using Cisco and Arista hardware. Experience with ansible programming and scripting is a plus. The ideal candidate will also have excellent communication skills, is able to work in a team environment and comprehension of IT Telecommunication/Network needs in a healthcare environment.
