We are seeking an individual with advanced professional and technical skills to design, develop, and implement, custom Geographic Information System (GIS) related software and supporting solutions critical to the Port of Portland's geospatial business activities. This is exciting work that involves technologies required to host and maintain GIS services on-premises and in the cloud.Are you a highly motivated and organized individual? Summary of Essential Responsibilities
- Configure and use of geospatial data, GIS (Geographic Information Systems), spatial databases, and relevant tools like ArcGIS, QGIS, PostGIS, or GeoServer.
- Leverage frameworks like React, Angular, or Vue.js for front-end development.
- Develop GIS web mapping applications with web mapping libraries and APIs such as Leaflet, OpenLayers, Google Maps API, and Mapbox.
- Design and build robust backend systems using technologies such as Express.js, Flask, Django, or similar frameworks.
- Manage spatial databases, including PostgreSQL/PostGIS, MySQL, or other relevant databases.
- Integrating geospatial data from various sources, including third-party APIs.
- Use spatial analysis techniques, including geoprocessing, spatial queries, and spatial statistics to create GIS solutions.
- Utilize version control systems to collaboratively manage codebase changes.
- Create GIS solutions in languages such as JavaScript (MapBox.js, Turf.js, Node.js), Python, Java, and C#.
- Deploy and manage GIS solutions using tools such as Docker, Kubernetes, or cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
- Use security best practices to ensure data protection and application security.
- Leverage Agile/Scrum development methodologies.
- Perform testing on new geospatial applications
- Respond to technical issues, identifying and resolving bugs and optimizing performance of existing GIS applications.
- Create user-friendly geospatial front-end applications by applying UI/UX design concepts.
- Develop effective data visualizations using tools such as D3.js or other charting libraries.
- Use analytical skills to tackle complex geospatial challenges and devise innovative solutions.
Minimum Requirements/Skills and Abilities
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field.
- 6 plus years with Geospatial Technologies Programing required
- Experience with programming languages and frameworks including HTML/CSS, jQuery, JavaScript, XML, C#, Python, ASP, ASP.Net, and NET Core.
- Software development research, design, testing, documentation, and implementation.
- Success in managing large projects that contain ambiguity and complex interdependencies.
- Positive results with leading small projects including planning, requirements gathering, issue management, task assignments and scheduling.
- Proven record of providing customer technical support and troubleshoot and resolve systems problems impacting critical operations.
- Experience with technical training of peers.
- Ability to pass and maintain a Criminal History Records check and Security Threat Assessment required for a PDX Security Badge (required).
