Primary Purpose

Provides leadership and support for Cybersecurity Operations staff and Cyber systems they support. Manages the work efforts of others, leading teams responsible for cybersecurity, privacy and compliance of IT/OT systems and of corporate data. Establishes the strategy and direction for security-specific systems and architecture. Works closely with leadership personnel (e.g., directors, management teams, tech leads, and key senior stakeholders) across Sempra business units. Responsible for cyber security of critical utility infrastructure. Oversees specialized security training and education for employees. Contributes to the development of the IT cybersecurity strategy and contributes to the company's security and privacy policies. Manages financial and human resources in area of responsibility.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Strategic planning, policy-making, and organizational leadership:
    -Provides leadership for operational activities for cybersecurity tools and controls for IT and OT environments.
    -Provides input into and assists with development of operational cybersecurity strategy, including risk mitigation plans.
    -Implements strategy and monitors progress.
    -Stays abreast of cybersecurity industry best-practices regarding information protection and cybersecurity. Recommends policy and procedural changes reflective of these practices.
    -Facilitates business and culture change in-line with communicated strategic priorities from senior management.
    -Assists in the development of policies, procedures, and standards within area of specialization.
    -Works closely with other cybersecurity teams to ensure strategic and reference architecture alignment.

  • Operational Leadership
    -Ensures operational cybersecurity tools and controls are delivered, providing solutions and critical data for company's Cyber Incident Response, Forensics and Security Operations Center teams.
    -Manages the daily activities of direct reports. Priorities goals and coordinates work with other teams, based on directives from senior management.
    -Mentors, coaches, and provides constructive feedback to team members.
    -Ensures compliance with policies, laws, and regulations in ensuring a secure environment, including cybersecurity of critical utility infrastructure and IT.
    -Implements business and process improvements.

  • Collaboration and Communication
    -Advises senior management on identifying and minimizing cybersecurity risks, threats, and vulnerabilities.
    -Ensures effective Implementation of plans to ensure business continuance standards, address cybersecurity risks, and minimize risks.
    -Collaborates and consults with IT and business stakeholders on policy development for cybersecurity in area of oversight.
    -Ensures policies and procedures are communicated clearly to relevant stakeholders.
    -Assists in managing relationships and negotiations with vendors.

  • Performs other duties as assigned (no more than 5% of duties).


    Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in computer science, engineering, information systems, related field and/or equivalent training and/or experience is required.

    Experience Required

  • 8 years Cybersecurity experience with a strong technical emphasis required.
  • 8 years experience with various information systems and technologies, including applications, networks, network topologies, communications protocols, software and hardware required.
  • 3 years experience with security technologies such as (but not limited to) IPS, IDS, Firewalls, Email Security Gateway, PKI, Multi Factor Authentication, Endpoint Security and Data Loss Prevention required.
  • 3 years Supervisory experience required.
  • Strong knowledge of various information systems and technologies, including applications, networks, network topologies, communications protocols, software, hardware.
  • Ability to work through diverse, sensitive company issues. Ability to handle sensitive information, perform discreet tasks, properly dispose of information, provide for secure management of data and advise others on proper procedures.
  • Thorough and up-to-date knowledge of industry cybersecurity best practices.
  • Strong ability to communicate technical information to various stakeholders, including senior managers and directors.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills, including influencing and negotiating.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, and strategic planning ability.
  • Ability to establish and manage budgets.
  • Strong judgment and creative thinking skills to address cybersecurity challenges.
  • Ability to manage resources in area of specialization to ensure that security issues are handled effectively and efficiently.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and lead activities involving many business disciplines and technical areas.
  • Proven success in managing large, complex projects and teams.
  • Knowledge of Cybersecurity frameworks such as NIST CSF, NIST 800-53, CIS top 20 Controls, etc. required.

    Preferred Skills/ Licenses and Certifications

  • 3 years experience in a Fortune 500 or large US Government agency preferred.
  • Professional certification such as Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) or equivalent.
  • May require 24 hour response availability.
