Job Description
The Office of International Student Services is accepting applications for an International Student Counselor. This position will provide support and advocacy for the international students within the Office of International Student Services, including supervision of assigned projects or initiatives. With support from the Assistant Director of the Center for Global Education and Engagement, assist with orientation of new international students, support of continuing international students, and organizing events to help integrate all international students into the campus community and promote the globalization of UT Martin. Participate in recruiting events as requested. Assist with federal immigration compliance.



Responsibilities
International Student Success and Engagement
- Direct international students to appropriate resources such as tutoring, supplemental instruction, career counseling, student health, etc.
- Organize and execute non-academic cultural activities and excursions for international students, including occasional travel
- Coordinate with campus groups on activities that engage international students with the campus community
- Coordinate with non-academic community members to organize activities for international students
- Engage in professional development and training regarding international student success and engagement

International Student Matriculation
- Manages the international@utm.edu email address
- Greet visitors and answer questions
- Arrange pickup/departure for international students each semester - Assist with orientation for new incoming international students
- Work with housing and dining services to help ease students' transition to UTM
- Assist students with transitioning to US, including shopping, banking, healthcare, and mail

SEVP/Immigration Compliance
- Obtain/maintain DSO certification, including regular training and professional development
- Assist PDSO with I-20s
- Assist PDSO with maintaining student registration in SEVIS system every semester
- Handle phone calls from SEVIS and Department of Homeland Security

Short-term Programs
- Assist with short-term programs for incoming international students
- Coordinate with other departments (Bursar, Housing, Sodexo)
- Travel with short-term students on excursions

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in a relevant field and two years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
Effective verbal and written communication
Ability to analyze problems and formulate solutions
Ability to provide excellent customer service
Ability to learn and understand new systems

Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of UTM's policies and procedures
International and domestic travel experience
Ability to organize domestic and international excursions
Experience as a Designated School Official or knowledge of immigration policies and procedures
