Assistant/Associate/ Senior Co-op Coordinator

About the Opportunity

The College of Social Sciences and Humanities and its nine tenure units are the home of the Experiential Liberal Arts. Through its research, teaching, and engagement missions, the college collaborates across the university, the Northeastern network, and partners around the globe. We are strongly committed to fostering excellence through diversity and enthusiastically welcome nominations and applications from members of groups underrepresented in academia.

We are seeking a Co-op Coordinator to work with students and employers in the Economics program. This is an open-rank non-tenure track position as Assistant Co-op Coordinator, Associate Co-op Coordinator or Senior Co-op Coordinator.

Responsibilities:
  • Employer Relations/Job Development: Economics is one of the largest majors in CSSH. The Co-op Coordinator is expected to maintain and increase partnerships with employers by working with hiring managers and human resources contacts to develop and maintain ongoing co-op positions. The Co-op Coordinator will promote opportunities to students, maintain a current understanding of the industry/field, employers, and positions, and meet with faculty, staff, alumni, and other parties to develop new programs/positions as well as grow existing relationships.
  • Teaching/Advising Students: The Co-op Coordinator will prepare students for the co-op search and work experience, both by teaching co-op related courses each semester, and through individual career advising meetings. Preparation includes teaching interviewing skills, resume writing, communication skills, professional behavior, ethics, and other relevant learning objectives. The Coordinator will be available to advise students during their co-op assignments, and will provide an opportunity for students to reflect about their co-op experiences.
  • Service: The Co-op Coordinator will also perform co-op, departmental, college, and university service as agreed upon by the Coordinator and Director of CSSH Cooperative Education. Further, the Coordinator will be encouraged to engage in service opportunities outside the university to enhance the reputation of the co-op program and the university.
  • Integrated Learning: Cooperative education is an integral part of the academic experience at Northeastern and our philosophy is that learning in the classroom is enriched by practical experience, and practical experience enriches classroom dialogue. The Co-op Coordinator will collaborate with college faculty, administration and other co-op coordinators, as appropriate, to help students integrate their co-op and academic experiences.

Qualifications:
  • A master's degree or its academic equivalent is required, and a minimum of three years of professional work experience. Five years of demonstrated excellence in the field is preferred.
  • Experience in a related profession or in career development and counseling of students, industry partnerships, human resources, recruiting or other related area. A combination of private sector and higher education experience is preferred.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, and proficiency in computer/technology and database maintenance.
  • Proven success in collaborating with a team and in working autonomously; self-starter and independently motivated to achieve goals.
  • Experience working with an international staff/student population.
  • Experience working with a diverse staff/student population and a demonstrated commitment to achieving and maintaining diversity in the workplace.
