Job Description Summary
This position provides administrative and project management support for the programs and services at the Greenfield Intercultural Center. Specifically, the Associate Director will provide oversight for building intercultural communities and overseeing student leadership development opportunities with the goal of promoting students' academic and personal success. The Associate Director is also responsible for providing leadership for developing wellness initiatives that center students at the intersection of their identities and lived experiences. The Associate Director will also work closely with Native, Indigenous and First Nation students to support community building, leadership development, program planning and implementation. The Associate Director will work closely with campus partners to create opportunities to connect students' curricular and co-curricular learning.

Job Description

Job Responsibilities
  • Provide oversight for building intercultural communities and overseeing wellness initiatives that center students at the intersection of their identities and lived experiences in order to promote academic and personal success.
  • Collaborate with GIC staff and campus partners on upgrading the online donated book library, maintaining the GIC pantry and facilitating our Learning Communities, as well as, organizing other support and wellness initiatives designed to promote wellness and success at Penn.
  • Support and advise Natives at Penn and assist in the design and implementation of events connected to Indigenous People Day, Native Heritage Month, GIC's Annual Powwow, attendance at or hosting of All Ivy Native Conference, Climate Week, Earth Day, Welcome and Graduation programs and any other related programs.
  • Serve as point person for the Office of Admissions in supporting recruitment of students with a special focus on supporting the recruitment of Native, Indigenous and First Nations students.
  • Design and implement student leadership retreats and other activities to support student leadership and student groups' organizational goals.
  • Advise and coach students through academic, social, personal and identity transitions and serve as resource to students, making referrals when appropriate,
  • Assist the center in offering workshops on Diversity and Inclusion with the goal of helping campus partners develop best practices in supporting diverse communities at Penn.
  • Provide information sessions at SALT and other opportunities to raise visibility of the center's programs and services among faculty, staff and students.
  • Provide assistance with budgetary management within an approved budget.
  • Assist in the design and implementation of assessment tools to evaluate program effectiveness.
  • Provide oversight for the center's Virtual Alumni community designed to help students build their network for personal and professional growth. Design innovative campaigns to enhance student engagement on the platform and assist center staff in cultivating alumni engagement for the platform.
  • Support the center's Graduate Student Placement Program and supervise at least one graduate student intern.
  • Participate in department and divisional meetings and activities as directed.
  • Assist in the training and supervision of student assistants and graduate student interns.
  • Assist in the staffing of the Center.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and 3-5 years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience, are required.
  • Master's degree and three to five years of related experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong preference for experience in the following fields; Student Development, Social Justice Education, Social Work, Counseling, Ethnic Studies, Native and Indigenous Studies, or a related field.
  • Exemplary project management skills and proven examples of sustainable event management.
  • Willingness and ability to support a diverse and inclusive campus community.
  • Demonstrated skills in curriculum design and facilitation including an understanding of student development theory, group dynamics and leadership development.
  • Experience managing and supervising part time student staff and interns.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of the team. Ability to collaborate and consult with multiple campus constituents including but not limited to senior level administrators, faculty, graduate and undergraduate students and alumni.
  • Effective organizational and management skills required.
  • Effective written and oral communications skills required.
  • Must be open to working in a flexible, fast paced environment with numerous stakeholders.
  • Must be available for some evening and weekend hours.

Targeted Pay Range
