Database Engineer

At Children's Miracle Network Hospitals, we raise funds and awareness for local children's hospitals across North America. We believe that by changing kids' health we can change the future. To meet these ambitious goals, we develop international partnerships and fundraising programs to raise the critical funds hospitals need to provide state-of-the-art medical care for kids. As a member of our team, you'll play a significant role in helping 10 million sick and injured kids every year.

The Database Engineer will be responsible for assisting the Director of Data Operations in all the data needs of the company. This position will be accountable for providing support for external and internal applications, internal and external data sources, business intelligence tools, and assist with database management. This position will include maintenance and improvement of current systems, as well as new design and development. This position will work in an Agile environment with a team of software engineers and scrum masters to accomplish continuous delivery of code. Besides, this position will be responsible for maintaining and troubleshooting existing code. This position requires an understanding of the architecture and design patterns for both ETL pipelines as well as data storage solutions.

What You Will Do
  • Create and modify reports using a variety of reporting technologies, including but not limited to Power Bi, SSRS, and Salesforce.
  • Design, create, maintain, and manage ETL pipelines in Azure Data Factory
  • Facilitate sharing of data between business-critical systems using a variety of tools including ETL tools, APIs, and application-specific integrations.
  • Performance tune databases and code across a variety of servers and technologies including SQL Server and MySQL.
  • Write ad-hoc SQL queries to answer complex business questions.
  • Design, create and maintain a Data Warehouses using Azure Data Warehouse or AzQL Managed Instances.
  • Centralize data from a variety of sources including SQL, NoSQL, APIs, and Data Lakes.
  • Write a clear, well documented, reliable, and thoroughly tested code.
  • Understand and manage the compute, network, and storage needs of data solutions.
  • Deploy, manage, and maintain machine learning models and datasets for key business applications.
  • Work directly with business partners and management teams to coordinate data modeling, transmission, and reporting requirements, then propose and develop solutions.
  • Classify, Secure and obfuscate data for use throughout the organization, maintaining compliance with all local and national laws and regulations
  • Architect Metadata driven ETL solutions that facilitate the movement of data across a variety of applications.

  • Hold training for the team to share knowledge of new processes
  • Continuously explore the advances in master data management and data security and advocate the related innovations across the organization
  • Assist in peer code reviews
  • Prototype data management tools and evaluate their usefulness based on business needs
