Proprio is a Seattle startup developing a system for real-time immersive video and mediated reality interaction. We develop cutting edge algorithms and custom hardware to enhance human capabilities in high precision activities such as spine and brain surgery.

Responsibilities

  • Define the architecture of the system including: understanding requirements, extracting architecturally-significant requirements, making architectural choices, synthesizing solutions, exploring alternatives and validating those options

  • Provide software architectural leadership across UX, algorithm, data analysis and research teams

  • Maintain the architectural integrity of the system through regular reviews, written guidelines and presentation of the architecture to various parties at different levels of abstraction and technical depth

  • Assess technical risks and create risk mitigation strategies or approaches

  • Participate in and lead project planning sessions

  • Identify and propose order and content of development iterations

  • Consult and collaborate with design, implementation and integration teams

  • Assist Product and Marketing teams with future product definitions

  • Partner with product development teams to design and review system architecture for new feature development

  • Mentor and motivate the team to build performant, robust, maintainable and secure systems

  • Improve the tea''s efficiency and productivity by reinforcing software design best practices and concepts

  • Oversee architectural approaches from conception to installation and ensure architectural integrity of solutions


  • Qualifications - Required

  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a software architect in a real-time system environment

  • B.S., M.S. or Ph.D. in Computer Science or related technical fields

  • Experience designing real-time computing and rendering pipelines

  • Prior experience as a full-stack desktop/thick client developer (5+ years)

  • An ability to describe software architecture using UML

  • Intimate familiarity with front-end development frameworks such as QT, Unity, and WPF

  • Experience in hardware and software integration

  • Proficiency with C#, C++, and Python and related build systems


  • Qualifications - Preferred

  • Experience in the use of Window IoT Enterprise platform for Class II or Class III medical devices

  • Knowledge of medical device regulatory frameworks

  • Ability to thrive in a start-up environment and embrace ambiguity

  • Experience with robotics, networked systems and scalable architectures
