This is a part-time, non-exempt, 25 hours per week, 38 weeks per year position. Monday - Friday between the core hours of 7:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., some flexibility required.

ORGANIZATIONAL FUNCTION AND RELATIONSHIPS:

The Child Care & Development Specialist is responsible for co-planning and implementing developmentally appropriate activities and child assessments, and maintaining a safe & nurturing environment, in a childcare education program for children 6 weeks - 3 years of age at the College's Early Learning Campus. The CC&D Specialist may supervise the work of assigned student staff, work study students, student interns, and student teachers. This position also prepares and leads assigned parent/teacher conferences.

This position reports to the Early Learning Campus Manager.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
  • Implements the educational philosophy of the center by co-planning appropriate learning and socialization activities for groups of children in terms of age, group size, composition, daily schedule, transitions, etc. Co-creates and supports an early childhood classroom environment conducive to children's growth and development.
  • Provides for the needs of the individual child in relationship to his/her cultural and socio-economic background, emotional and physical make-up, and individual style and pace of learning.
  • Maintains accurate and ongoing child assessment information and documentation for use in lesson planning and parent communication.
  • Participates in in-service, conferences and workshops to continue to grow and develop in the childcare space, maintaining a minimum of 25 eligible continuing education hours annually.
  • Maintains health and safety standards and participates in daily/weekly cleaning of classroom and center ((light food prep, sanitizing: tables, toys, bedding, etc).
  • Works cooperatively with other staff, as evidenced by exchanging ideas, information, feedback and support. As assigned, guides and evaluates the daily work activities of student staff, work study students, and student teachers/interns.
  • Communicates with parents, through informal communication, newsletters, and formal conferences, for the purposes of exchanging information with them about their children's lives at the center and at home and maintaining positive rapport.
  • Maintains a commitment to the college mission, vision and values. Comply with college policies, directives, and work rules. Engages positively with colleagues, handles conflict directly and professionally, contributes to team discussions, collaborates and helps colleagues, assumes the best from colleagues, provides and accepts constructive feedback, follows through on commitments, and supports final decisions that are made.
  • Other duties as defined by department, college, or officials.


KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS:
  • Skill in communicating effectively and professionally, both orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated skill in communications and human relations with populations of diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds and persons with disabilities.
  • Skill in using anecdotal observations for planning and implementing a developmentally appropriate, play-based early childhood curriculum.
  • Knowledge and consistent implementation of appropriate child guidance techniques.
  • Thorough understanding of WI Child Care Licensing Standards and WI Early Learning Standards.
  • Meets requirements of WI Licensing Rules for Group Child Care Centers (DCF 251) for physical exam, TB skin test, and criminal background check both upon hire and on ongoing basis. Achieve within 3 months and maintain current certification in first aid and CPR.
  • Physical stamina and ability to lift 50 pounds minimum.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Associates degree or two-year technical diploma in Child Development, Early Childhood Development or related field.
  • One year (2,000 hours) experience teaching young children in a licensed and city accredited early childhood education setting.
  • WI Early Childhood Registry as Child Care Teacher or higher certificate preferred, or ability to secure certification within the first six (6) months of employment.
