Electric Drivetrain Safety Engineer

Overview

Technical position accountable for the Operational Safety of electrical and power systems. Electric and Hybrid vehicles contain high voltage DC and AC safety systems that are monitored by vehicle systems controllers that will maintain a safety barrier between the vehicle operator and the vehicle body/chassis to mitigate the possibility of electrical shock.



Responsibilities
  • Write safety requirements in Component Product Card specifications according to CNHi Standards
  • Support definition and design high voltage interlock and safety mechanisms (e.g. disconnect systems)
  • Assessment of EE HV architectures (from the Vehicle to the components, HW and SW), including interaction between electronic functionalities, system performances, diagnostics protocols and validation of the safety related requirements securing compliance with standards and company guidelines
  • Reference for Advanced Technology & Innovation to support identification of gaps in applicable identified standards and internal safety guidelines
  • Support FMEA, HARA or other methodologies for the analysis and assessment of failure modes and risks
  • Accountable for compliance of expected safety targets as per CNHi direction for new hybrid drivetrain
  • Analyze and evaluate HV safety related requirements as result of system design measures in close collaboration with corresponding domains
  • Support the definition of System Validation Specifications and test plan with attention to Operational Safety
  • Analyze and trace component testing results in line with the validation plan for all the safety requirements to keep safety case updated
  • Support releasing and implementation of all safety mechanisms according to the V-model for development
  • Support the assessment of Safety of controlled systems during development as well as at the end of system development
  • Position pays $93,500 to $125,000


Qualifications
  • Bachelors Degree in Electronic, Electrical, Mechatronics, Automation, or another relevant discipline
  • 3+ years of experience on electrical safety implementation at ECUs and system level
  • 3+ years of experience as functional safety (ISO25119, ISO13849 and ISO15998) engineer
  • Ability to travel 10-15% of time
