Job Summary:

The Business Intelligence Engineer is a member of the Reporting, Analytics, and Integrated Data (RAID) Business Intelligence Engineering (BI Engineering) team. We are expanding our services to provide a unified platform for all administrative reporting across the University to deliver enterprise dashboards, business-unit created content, as well as individual, ad hoc reporting capabilities. Other duties as needed or required.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Participate fully in software development lifecycle activities, from problem scoping and requirements gathering, to development, testing, and deployment

  • Design and develop data models, OBIEE/OAS metadata models, and reports and dashboards

  • Mentor OAS developers from various business units to fulfill their own reporting needs with OAS

  • Help to establish and promote best and recommended practices for reporting in general and OAS specifically

  • Improve and simplify the development process for tenant users, including through automation

  • Provide support, including troubleshooting and resolving production issues

  • Contribute to documentation

  • Occasional work outside of core business hours is required.

  • Other duties as needed or required


Typical Core Duties:

  • Participate fully in software development life cycle

  • Research, design, and implement technical solutions to deliver business requirements

  • Identify opportunities to improve and simplify applications portfolio and implement related enhancements

  • Contribute to creation and maturing of software development best practices and new technologies

  • Draw on relationship and technical skills to act as technical liaison to internal and external clients and to mentor junior staff

  • Abide by and follow the Harvard University IT technical standards, policies and Code of Conduct


Basic Qualifications

  • Minimum of five years' post-secondary education or relevant work experience


Additional Qualifications and Skills

The following Additional Qualifications are strongly preferred. If you meet some, but not all, you are still encouraged to apply; we value employees with a willingness to learn.

  • Professional experience developing RPD and catalog content for OBIEE or OAS/OAC required

  • Professional experience working with relational databases and writing SQL required

  • Experience developing and/or enhancing reporting data models

  • Strong interest in contributing to continuous development process improvement

  • Excellent interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills.

  • Ability and desire to work both independently and as part of a team

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Understanding of and experience with iterative development (e.g., Agile)

  • Service-oriented mindset and approach

Working Conditions

Interview and onboarding activity for this position may be conducted via telephone & Zoom video conferencing, based on the department's current presence on campus.

HUIT actively supports hybrid work where business and team needs allow.¿For those interested in remote work this position can be performed remotely. All remote work must be performed in a state in which Harvard is registered to do business (CA, CT, MA, ME, NH, NJ, NY, RI, and VT).

Travel to campus may be necessary based on business needs and the nature of work. Examples include bi-annual, monthly, or quarterly Town Halls, critical business meetings or other work events. There will be times when being on campus is expected and advance notice will be provided. Additional detail will be discussed during the interview process.
