About the Opportunity:
The Office of Student Services is looking for an Academic Advisor to join their team! Bouve College of Health Sciences has over 200 faculty members, with approximately 2,000 undergraduate and 2,400 graduate students. It is the leading national model for education and research in the health, psychosocial and biomedical sciences and supports the University's mission of educating students for a life of fulfillment and accomplishment and creating and translating knowledge to meet global and societal needs. Within Bouve, the Behrakis Health Sciences Center houses a state of the art human performance and exercise laboratory with teaching and research space, including fully equipped exercise stress testing stations, metabolic carts, Lunar DEXA machine, an underwater weighing tank, Cybex and Keiser strength and power equipment, wet lab facilities for blood processing and muscle biopsies. The Arnold S. Goldstein Simulation Laboratories Suite, opened in 2013, provides a state-of-the-art simulation center for interprofessional education.

Responsibilities:
The academic advisor provides student-centered advising services to Bouve College of Health Sciences students. The advisor assists students with interpreting degree audits, understanding degree requirements, planning curricular and co-curricular experiences, and making referrals to resources. The advisor interprets and communicates University and College policies and procedures and assists students with navigating processes. The advisor works collaboratively with constituents across campus to facilitate services for students. The advisor will occasionally coordinate programs and events for students and will also coordinate special projects at the discretion of the Associate Director and/or Assistant Dean.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of advising, student development theory, and/or career development theory

  • Knowledge of current market trends relevant to the array of health science programs at Bouve College

  • Knowledge of and ability to coordinate programs, develop event assessments, and utilize technology

  • Strong interpersonal communication and public speaking skills

  • Ability to uphold the ethical principles and practices set forth by the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA)

  • Awareness of the needs of special populations such as underrepresented minorities, people with disabilities, and non-traditional student cohorts

  • Ability to engage and teach multiple audiences in multiple forms

  • Ability to demonstrate good judgment in decision-making and problem-solving

    Qualifications:
    Master's degree


    Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a higher education setting
  • College-level teaching experience
  • Experience using Navigate, Banner, SalesForce, and/or DARS
  • Experience working with healthcare students

    Salary Grade:
    10
