About the Opportunity:
Founded in 1922, the D'Amore-McKim School of Business at Northeastern University offers a unique model of business education that purposely blends innovative classroom learning with real-world business application. At the undergraduate level, both the BS in Business Administration and the BS in International Business programs offer students the opportunity to develop into highly motivated business leaders. Graduate students and corporate learners can choose from several different certificate and full-time and part-time MBA and MS programs designed to enable motivated professionals to accelerate their success in business. The school is committed to embedding a global mindset into all of these programs, as well as in its research and outreach activities.

The Administrative Assistant in the Undergraduate Programs Office at the D'Amore-McKim School of Business is essential to the smooth functioning of the office. This role coordinates and directs the flow of advising and office services for 4000+ students on behalf of the Associate Dean, Assistant Dean, and other Administrators, as well as a team of professional advising staff. This individual serves as the front desk customer service representative who assists in overseeing daily office functions. The efficient and accurate dispensing of information and the monitoring of student inquiries is a significant responsibility. The person in this position is often the first contact individuals have with the D'Amore-McKim School of Business, Undergraduate Programs, and in many cases the University. It is a highly visible and at times high traffic position. Special care must be taken to develop a successful and rewarding relationship with each client. The Administrative Assistant will provide clear and personalized direction to all customers while maintaining an office atmosphere responsive to student needs. Position requires thorough knowledge and understanding of D'Amore-McKim School of Business and university policies and procedures and staying up to date on the same. This person ensures that the student-centered unit is effectively run and is charged with making the student experience a positive one. This position requires the ability to handle many situations with tact and efficiency, including those that are urgent in nature.

Associate's Degree required; Bachelor's Degree

preferred. A minimum of two years of office experience is required. Previous experience in a higher education is a plus. The successful candidate will:

  • Possess the ability to successfully function in a fast-paced environment with strong prioritization, organizational and administrative skills.

  • Have excellent computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite) and the flexibility to adapt to new technology and various computer/software applications.

  • Ability to access and research information via the Internet and respond to telephone inquiries.

  • Extremely strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Be able to communicate and interact effectively with diverse backgrounds and across multiple levels.

  • Value and provide confidentiality around sensitive issues and determine appropriate levels of communication around sensitive information.

  • Display self-motivation and initiative and the ability to work independently.

  • Demonstrate dependability, strong work ethic and the ability to make some independent decisions.

  • Represent the Undergraduate Office in a professional manner and work successfully with college age students.
